What a week we have had in Secondary! We have had a new class of 25 introduced to the Secondary area last week…all vibrant, young swimmers ready to be welcomed by the students at DCS (yes they are fish!).
Students have also been getting fired up in both cooking classes. They had ‘spicy enchiladas’, but could not stop themselves eating them because they were so good! The cooking class have also made their own mayonnaise that “tastes better than mayonnaise”, as well as their own curried sausages and butter chicken.
In design we also have shoebox buildings coming alive as some of our students are past the design stage and into the construction phase of their Scale City Location. From iconic land marks such as Leaning Tower of Pisa, Big Ben, The Beans, The MCG to other constructions like temples, waterscapes and bridges all being reconstructed into a shoebox, ready for their miniature figure to get a photo in.
This year the official Book Week theme is ‘Reading is Magic’. The DCS community will be celebrating Book Week commencing Monday 21st August. This is a very exciting week which culminates in our Book Week Parade on Friday 23rd August from 8.30am in the JILOA Centre, where students have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character.
Characters should be from a book and not a movie and students are asked to bring along a copy of the book their character is from.
Secondary students who have chosen to dress up for Book Week can participate in the Book Week Parade in our JILOA Centre from 8.30am. All families are warmly invited to join us.
Over the next few weeks we continue ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) for students in Year 2 through to Year 8. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to further discover areas of passions and for them to assess their skills in a range of curriculum areas. Over the course of the next few weeks we will see 69 students complete 137 assessments in 6 competitions:
The Secondary Expo Evening will be a night dedicated to our students showcasing their work to their parents and peers, and an opportunity for our 2025 students to see what Secondary is all about.
We can't wait to see you there on Tuesday 20th August from 7pm in the Secondary building!
The Secondary Team
As a school we are excited to welcome all families to our Secondary The Gathering Assemblies every Friday.
We wish to advise that there will be no The Gathering on Friday 23rd August but you are welcome to come along at 8:30am and watch our Book Week parade.
Gateway Church Devonport would like to invite our school community to an awesome weekend we have coming up with REGGIE DABS!
Reggie Dabbs is one of the most sought-after speakers around the world and visited us at DCS just last year! The NW Coast of Tasmania is so blessed to have him back with us in a few weeks time. We are looking forward to coming together to lift up the name of Jesus and hear from Reggie Dabbs in a powerful way.
