Devotion

This week, my family had to say goodbye to our 15 year old cavoodle, Chester.

The loss of a pet can leave a profound void in our hearts. Pets become cherished companions, and their passing feels like losing a part of our family. In this time of sorrow, it’s important to remember the value they brought to our lives and the love they embodied.

Psalm 34:18 offers comfort: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

This verse reassures us that God is near during our times of grief, understanding the depth of our pain and offering His healing presence.

Our pets, though not human, bring immense joy and unconditional love. They listen without judgement, and never give advice. They accept us exactly as we are, regardless of how we look, feel or behave. They forgive us readily and never hold grudges against us. Their passing reminds us of the importance of cherishing the moments we have. They also remind us of God’s creation and the love He shares with all living things. The bond we shared with our pets reflects a part of God’s care for us and reminds us to appreciate the beauty of His creation.

We thank God, the Creator of all life, for the years we were privileged to enjoy with Chester. He has fulfilled the purpose for which God gave him to our family. For many years he shared our laughter and our tears, our moods and our meals, our walks and our talks. Now, from grateful hearts, we give him back to God, Who gave him to us to love and cherish. Rest in peace. Amen
