Raising sensitive issues with our children and working to resolve problems that arise along the way can be challenging. It can also be hard as a parent to know the difference between normal behaviour, such as moodiness, irritability and withdrawal, and an emerging mental health problem.
The organisation headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds. Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.
headspace can help young people with:
With a focus on early intervention, they work with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.
An additional service Headspace provides are online resources. Resources such as articles, fact sheets and videos assist families and others that may be supporting young people by providing a further understanding of mental ill-health, wellbeing concerns, how to navigate life and drug and alcohol issues.
Though Headspace targets 12-25 year olds, the resources available online can assist with enabling these conversations with our younger years.
These recourses can be found on Headspace’s website in the "explore topics" tab or via the link
