Dear Saltwater Families,
Welcome to Week Six of Term Three. We have officially passed the halfway point of Term Three, wow, how time flies! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for their continued support and to our hard-working staff who continue to work to make Saltwater P-9 College the best school it can be!
Please read to find out about some of the exciting things that have occurred at Saltwater P-9 College over the last fortnight.
The last few weeks at Saltwater have been filled with excitement as we celebrated both Science Week and Book Week. What an exciting and engaging time for our staff and students. Please explore our social media posts for updates and photos of the special events.
Book Week Celebration
Book week has come and gone and what a highlight it proved to be once again! The air was filled with excitement as students and staff dressed in their imaginative costumes, showcasing their love for reading and their appreciation for the magical worlds that authors have crafted. The parade is not just a visual spectacle but also a testament to the power of literature in fostering creativity and a lifelong love of learning. Teachers joined in on the fun, dressing up as iconic literary figures to inspire their students and demonstrate their passion for reading. It was great to see the effort and enthusiasm that students showed towards their favourite books and we are grateful to our families for their incredible efforts.
For anyone looking for costumes ready for next year's Book Week, Lombards is offering a 10% discount for families who present this voucher when purchasing costumes or accessories.
We are thrilled to share that our annual Book Parade was a huge success! The students showed incredible creativity and enthusiasm in their costumes, bringing their favorite book characters to life. To capture these wonderful memories, we have taken photos of the event, which will soon be available for you to view. Please keep an eye out for further details on how to access these photos. Thank you for your continued support in making this day special for our students!
Scholastic Book Fair
We are thrilled to announce the Scholastic Book Fair is returning to Saltwater College in Week 9, from Monday 9 until Friday 13 September. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore a diverse selection of books and immerse themselves in the joy of reading. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to attend the Book Fair with their class to either purchase items or create a wish list of books they may want to purchase.
The Book Fair will be held in the staffroom and will also be open before school from 8:00am and after school until 4:00pm.
We are seeking a few parent volunteers to support the running of the Book Fair during school times each day. If you are intersted, please email Mrs Goegan on emily.goegan@saltwatercollege.vic.edu.au.
Planning for 2025
It's that time of year when the leadership team begin working through 2025 planning, class structures and our recruitment process. As we continue the planning process for 2025, we would appreciate parents notifying the school if your child/ren will not be returning to our school in 2025, as soon as possible, by contacting the school office on 8366 7700.
Swooping Season
We have some important information regarding Masked Lapwings (or Spur-winged Plovers) nesting on our school grounds. These birds have nested on our oval. It is quite common for Plovers to nest on the ground in places like parks, school ovals, golf courses, sports fields and pastures, and they are highly protective of their young.
To ensure everyone's safety, we have sectioned off the area on the oval where the birds have nested to keep students, staff and parents away. We kindly request that parents remind their children of the importance of staying clear of the birds, particularly during drop off and dismissal times.
These native birds are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975. It's illegal to disturb or harm them without proper authority from DEECA. Swooping is a defensive behaviour. While it can be alarming, it's rare for them to make contact. Please see below flyers for further information or visit Wildlife Victoria's website.
Saltwater Colour Run
Once again, on the final day of Term Three from 1:40pm-2:40pm, Saltwater College will become a sea of colour and fun! For those new to Saltwater, we hold our colour run each year to raise important funds for our school. The Colour Run process is simple, register online using the link below and then get your family and friends to sponsor you. And the best part? You then get to choose awesome prizes dependent on how much money you raise! Further information will be shared about the event closer to the date.
If you wish to be a parent volunteer and assist on the day, please email Mr Peterson on james.peterson@education.vic.gov.au.
Sun Smart Policy - No Hat, No Play!
Please remember that students require a broad rimmed HAT for all outdoor activities and recess breaks in Term Four and Term One.
As the warmer weather approaches, please note that from Term 4 to 30 April, all students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities. Hats can also be worn for all outdoor activities outside of the Term 4 to April time period, by parent or student choice.
Staff and students are encouraged to wear hat styles that protect the face, neck and ears when outdoors, for example broad-brimmed, legionnaire or bucket. Baseball or peaked caps and sun visors are not considered a suitable alternative, as they do not protect the ears, cheeks or neck. Students who are not wearing appropriate hats will be asked to use available areas of shade when outdoors or a suitable area protected from the sun. Please ensure hats, and all uniform items are labelled clearly with your child's name.
2024 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
Recently a random selection of families received correspondence regarding the Department's annual Parent/Carers Opinion Survey. We encourage our selected families to complete this survey as the information collected is an essential part of the school’s ongoing planning.
Thank you.
