Year Three
Dear Year Three Community,
It has been an exciting fortnight in Year Three, and we are now halfway through the term. Our students have been deeply engaged in their learning journey.
Reading
In reading, the students have been focusing on reciprocal teaching strategies, particularly summarising texts related to our unit of inquiry on technological advancements. This approach has empowered students to better comprehend and articulate key ideas from their reading, enhancing their overall reading skills. Students also used the main idea and supporting details to support them when writing their summaries.
Writing
During Writing, students have been busy publishing their explanation texts about their chosen technological advancement. They have also enjoyed the opportunity to particpate in Writer's Workshop where they have agency in their learning by chosing their own topics and writing genre, allowing them to hone their writing skills and express their ideas creatively.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have delved into multiplicative thinking with a strong emphasis on division. They’ve been exploring a variety of strategies to tackle open-ended problems, which is enhancing their problem-solving abilities and numerical understanding.
Inquiry
As we wrap up our fourth unit of inquiry, students have stepped into the role of tech-innovators. Using the BAR (Bigger, Add, and Remove/Replace) thinking routine, they’ve designed solutions to real-life problems, applying their creativity and critical thinking skills. Student have also been thinkers when completing their end of unit reflection using the PEEL method, which has allowed them to dig deeper about their learning and understandings from the unit. They answered a range of questions by making connections and looking at different perspectives.ye
Science Week
Science Week was a highlight, with students enthusiastically participating in various activities. The week kicked off with an inspiring assembly demonstration by Mrs. Martyn, featuring captivating experiments. In class, students worked in small groups to create mindful bottles using oil, vinegar, bicarb soda, food coloring, and glitter, leading to engaging discussions about their observations.
Book Week
Students enjoyed celebrating Book Week by creating book doors, watching The Saltwater Magic Show and voting for their favourite act and the culmination of Book Week all classes getting together for our parade on Friday. It was wonderful to see all the the different characters.
