Acting Principal's Message

The past few weeks have been bustling with exciting events! We celebrated Book Week with a lively parade and Book Fair, where students embraced their love for reading in creative costumes. Pyjama Day brought extra comfort and fun to our school routine. Some Grade 5/6 students showcased their athletic skills at the Bayside District Basketball Championships. Last night we enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day afternoon and BBQ, highlighted by a special celebration in the hall to end the night. It’s been a joyful and action-packed time, and we thank everyone for their enthusiastic participation and support!

As we continue to nurture and educate our students, I want to take a moment to emphasise the importance of adhering to school rules, listening to instructions, and regulating behaviours. These elements are fundamental in creating a positive and productive learning environment for all our students.

Why Following School Rules Matters

School rules are designed to ensure the safety, respect, and well-being of every student. They help create a structured environment where learning can thrive. When students follow these rules, it not only helps them to stay focused and engaged in their learning but also fosters a sense of responsibility and respect for others.

Listening to Instructions: A Key to Success

Listening attentively to instructions is crucial for effective learning. It ensures that students understand their tasks and expectations, which can significantly enhance their academic performance and personal development. Students are encouraged to ask questions if they are unsure about something and reminded of the importance of listening carefully to teachers and staff.

Regulating Behaviours for a Harmonious Classroom

Regulating behaviour is an essential skill for primary school children. It helps them interact positively with peers and handle challenges constructively. Teaching children to manage their emotions and responses not only benefits their personal growth but also contributes to a supportive and collaborative classroom environment.

A number of our staff have trained in the Berry Street Education Model, a comprehensive approach designed to support the well-being and academic success of our students. This model emphasises creating a nurturing and effective learning environment through several key practices that we believe will greatly benefit our students.

Being Present, Centered, and Grounded

The Berry Street Education Model encourages students to be present, centred, and grounded. This approach helps children focus on the here and now, managing their emotions and behaviours to be fully engaged in their learning. By teaching students these skills, we aim to enhance their ability to concentrate and participate actively in class activities.

Ready to Learn Plans

To ensure that every student is prepared to learn, we have implemented some "Ready to Learn" plans. These plans help students transition smoothly into their learning environment by providing a structured routine and clear expectations. This approach supports students in developing the skills they need to be attentive and engaged in their lessons.

Circle Time: Building a Sense of Belonging

Each day begins with Circle Time, a crucial component of our approach. During Circle Time, students come together to connect with one another, share their thoughts, and build a strong sense of community. This practice helps to foster a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere, ensuring that every child feels valued and ready to embark on the day's learning tasks.

Congratulations to our basketballers in Grades 5/6 who competed in the Bayside District Basketball Competition. The girls' team came 1st overall and now progress to the next round which is very exciting. The boys came 3rd and showed great skill and sportsmanship. A big thank you to Mr John Caine and Ms Mel Cotta who have dedicated their time to training and coaching the teams.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Drop Off/Pick up

Please drive slowly and carefully through the school carpark, before and after you have dropped off or picked up your child.

When parking in the  'kiss and go' parking bay on the right hand side students must follow the pathway and cross at the manned crossing. Parents must not exit their car and walk their child across the road or through the carpark as this puts people, especially our students, at risk.

Beginning of the school day is 8:45am

It is cold and miserable but also important that students get to school, ready to start the school day on time. Please ensure that your child is at school between 8:30 am and 8:45 am.

Enjoy your weekend.
