Supporting Teen Wellbeing During School Holidays

School holidays are a time for students to rest, recharge, and build habits that benefit their physical and emotional health. Here are some quick tips to help them stay healthy and balanced during school holidays.

1. Get Outside for Vitamin D

Vitamin D, essential for mood and bone health, comes from sunlight. Encourage your teen to spend at least 20-30 minutes outdoors daily, whether it's through walking, cycling, or simply reading outside.

2. Manage Screen Time

Set clear limits on device use, especially before bedtime, and promote screen-free activities like reading, games, or hobbies. Establish family screen-free periods during meals or afternoons to help everyone unplug and connect with one another.

3. Stay Active

Physical activity helps to improves mood and energy. Organise family outings like hikes or swimming or encourage your teen to join sports activities during the break.

4. Rest and Recharge

Teens need 8-10 hours of sleep for optimal health. Help them establish a consistent sleep routine and encourage relaxation through screen-free activities such as mindfulness, meditation, or quiet time.

5. Balanced Nutrition

Involve your teen in preparing healthy meals rich in fruits, vegetables, and proteins to keep them energised and focused. Cooking is a life skill and a great opportunity to try new things and bond as a family.

These simple strategies will help ensure your teen enjoys a healthy, balanced holiday, returning to school refreshed and ready.
