Book Week

Mr Ray Andrew | Head of English

Book Week 2024 was truly memorable. It was heartening to see both Primary and Secondary staff and students enthusiastically celebrating books and literary characters, and just enjoying the opportunity to dress up and have fun.

The energy and enthusiasm of our Primary section was truly awe-inspiring. The colourful photographs of students reading to their younger peers were exciting and meaningful. Not to be outdone, our Primary teachers put in an extraordinary effort, with their impressive costumes.

Not surprisingly, our Secondary students were predictably less enthused than their primary counterparts. Nevertheless, a number of students participated enthusiastically. The real stars in the Secondary section, however, were the teachers! Some of the costumes were arguably of a 'Hollywood' standard and reflected hours of preparation and effort.

This is our second combined Primary and Secondary Book Week, and with each passing year, we hope that we grow a TKC culture that celebrates books and reading, with our teachers, in both the Primary and Secondary sections, taking the lead as inspiring role-models.

In our classrooms, Secondary English and HASS teachers have assigned classroom time to DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) for a second year. We have also begun building classroom libraries. Our students have responded very positively, showing a growing interest and appreciation for class reading time. Our students are now able to read independently for longer stretches; a life skill that will benefit them in the future. These are simple but fundamental teaching practices. In doing so, we hope to plant the seeds of a future generation of readers.

Father's Day Services

The King's College students created a wonderful program for our fathers on Father's Day.

Dads enjoyed complimentary coffee and breakfast while being entertained by music from our young Creative Club members before the service. One of our courageous Year 9 students, Leo, along with his coach and father, shared their passion for racing and emphasised the importance of having the right support and encouragement. They highlighted that racing is not just about speed, but also about overcoming internal obstacles with courage and persevering no matter the challenges. Our Primary Choir and Creative Club students also inspired us with performances of "Roar," "I Believe I Can Fly," and "You Raise Me Up."  We want to express our gratitude to all the dads. Thank you for everything you mean to us.

Art and Technologies Mini-Exhibition

Congratulations to the talented staff and students who participated in this year's Art and Technologies Showcase! The event, held on Monday, 16th September, highlighted remarkable works from Years 6 to 12 in Visual Art, Woodwork, Media, Photography, Design, and Textiles. Students proudly shared their creations with staff, family, and friends during the opening afternoon tea, with live entertainment from our Year 9 Music students. A delicious spread, prepared by our Food Technology team and students, added a tasty touch to the celebration. We are already excited to see the wonderful creations next year will bring!

KWA Worship Together

Article by Atidaishe Zodzi (Year 11)

"KWA Worship Together took place on the evening of 16 September. It's a night that focuses on coming together in one room to fellowship and worship with people of all various ages and stages of life. From students to pastors, to young adults, we were all so blessed to hear from Darlene Zschech, a famous singer-songwriter who Ps Michael interviewed, and she shared with us about her heart for worship and the inspiration behind a few of her well-known songs like; "Shout to the Lord", "In Jesus' Name" and "Worthy is the Lamb".

Worship leaders from different churches led the songs along with our very own Music Captain, Tapiwa. While declaring the lyrics from these songs, I had an encounter with God. It showed me that there is such power in corporate worship because I left not only feeling touched myself, but by how God also inspired by the number of people really being moved by God. The College should be proud that their sacrifice allows many individuals from the community to experience the presence of God, not just in Perth, but across the earth."
