Science Update

2024 Science Ambassadors

Last week, The Gap State High School was buzzing with excitement as students participated in Science Week, a series of mind-blowing experiments and activities that showcased the wonders of science. From Monday to Friday, students engaged in hands-on experiments that combined learning with fun.

The week kicked off with the fascinating "Walking on Water" experiment, where students explored the science of surface tension. The fun continued with "Invisible Ink," where participants discovered the secrets of chemical reactions and hidden messages.

Midweek, the "Magic Pepper" experiment dazzled students with its demonstration of surface tension, followed by the "Dancing Raisins" activity, where students observed buoyancy and carbonation in action. The week’s scientific journey was punctuated with the thrilling "Levitating Paper Clips" experiment, captivating everyone with the magic of magnetic forces.

The grand finale on Friday was nothing short of spectacular. The "Watermelon Explosion" event drew a massive crowd eager to witness the dramatic end of Science Week. After an astounding 386 rubber bands were meticulously wrapped around the watermelon, the tension reached its peak, and the watermelon exploded in a shower of fruity fragments. The event was a resounding success and the highlight of the week, leaving everyone in awe of the explosive scientific spectacle.

In addition to the thrilling experiments, we are pleased to announce the winner of our Photography Competition: William Kynasten. His exceptional work captured the spirit and excitement of Science Week, earning him top honours.

Science Week at The Gap State High School was a resounding success, filled with educational fun and unforgettable moments. We look forward to next year’s events and hope to see even more students inspired by the wonders of science!
