Term Three provided opportunities for students to begin to consider their contributions towards overall year group culture. Developmentally, students enter Year 7 with their central focus being on “self”. As they journey through the early secondary years and participate in Term Three city-based excursions, pastoral care guest speakers, academic incursions and Service-Learning opportunities, St George’s aims to support a broadening of that focus towards “self and others”.
Encouraging students to see themselves as a contributor towards year group culture invites deeper thinking about their own contributions and whether these are adding value or detracting from the experience of those around them. As our students move towards Year 9, we hope that their focus will begin to broaden further towards “self, others and respect”.
I encourage our Year 7 and 8 students to reflect on the message shared by Father Gift during our Week 10 Chapel service where he encouraged each student to take the time to REST over the upcoming holidays. Prioritising sleep and ensuring tech free time is important to support mental and physical recovery after the exciting events of Term Three.
Term Four promises to be another busy term, filled with opportunities to participate in everything our school offers, both in and out of the classroom. I look forward to seeing our Year 7 and 8 students dressed in their summer uniform, ready to begin their learning on Tuesday, 8 October.
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday break.
