Let's Talk Careers

A recent study by the World Economic Forum (2023) found that young people are aware of the challenges that face them once they leave school, from high living costs to the climate crisis. As such, younger generations are aware of the need to equip themselves with the knowledge and competencies required for workplaces of the future.

In a global survey of more than 700,000 young people, education emerged as the main priority.

To address the needs of young people and to keep pace with emerging trends, micro-credentials are becoming increasingly popular to gain new skills and knowledge in a range of subject areas.

At St George’s, we have partnered with the University of Western Australia to offer academic micro-credentials in a range of subject areas that could translate into university credits in undergraduate years. Furthermore, in Pathways, we are always looking for ways to help our students to upskill and help them to bolster their resumes through short courses and certificates which students can access through GrandShake or Google Certificates.

Including micro-credentials on your resume can significantly enhance your profile, especially in today’s fast-evolving job market. Micro-credentials demonstrate your commitment to continuous learning, highlight job-specific skills, and show employers that you’re up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies. Whether your child is about to leave school or exploring options for the future, having a record of your achievements can mean the difference between clinching that part time job or being selected for a scholarship. I encourage our students to look at how to include micro credentials on their resume.

Earning micro-credentials is a fantastic first step to building a knowledge base and demonstrating that you have a growth mindset. By keeping a look out for new learning opportunities, you are demonstrating that you are preparing for the future, adaptable and willing to learn new skills.
