With some warmer weather upon us we have quickly reached the end of Term Three and the beginning of the September school holidays. Winter uniforms are now to be packed away until our end-of-year celebratory services and summer uniforms need to be refreshed and pressed ready for Term Four. Term Four commences for all students across Years 7 – 11 on Tuesday, 8 October. The Year 12 schedule for Term Four has been sent to families by Mr Tim Hayward, Head of Year 11 and 12.
What a wonderful term we have had – there has been much to celebrate and be proud of this term. When reflecting on our many successes, I am reminded of – our sold-out school production of Frozen Jr and our NAIDOC Week Service with the smoking ceremony at St George’s Cathedral led by Dylan Collard, a Wadjak and Ballardong Noongar man passionate about preserving the Noongar language.
I enjoyed seeing our Interhouse Athletics Carnival at the State Athletics Centre for the very first time and attending the Optus Stadium Sleepout with our biggest contingent of St George’s students being involved and then our own unique Sleepout on the Roof - both events seeking to embed a greater understanding and sense of hope for the many young people affected by homelessness or hardship, as well as raising funds for the Anglicare Street Connect Bus and its various services. My sincere thanks go to Mr McBride and Father Gift for leading these important Service Learning initiatives this term.
I have loved hearing of our wonderful year group events such as the Year 10 Camp, the Year 7 Silent Disco and the Year 8 Picnic in the Park and ten-pin bowling social – all fun gatherings to help continue to build connectedness among our year group cohorts led by our incredibly talented and committed Heads of Year.
Many of the weeks of Term Three have seen us celebrate the teaching and learnings within our departments with Science Week, Book Week, Health Week, Arts Week and Languages Week – memorable celebrations of the diverse array of academic successes and achievements happening consistently within our subject areas.
The Music Department was kept busy with the ASC Piano Competition and our own Battle of the Bands Concert saw Lincoln House seizing victory. Finally, we concluded the term with an obvious portrayal of the talent that is very much alive and well here at St George’s Anglican Grammar School through the spectacular Mandela Charity Day talent quest at the Perth Town Hall. A wonderful event to conclude Term Three. (See at the pictures further into this newsletter).
As we begin the holidays, I remind you of the importance of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. I hope all members of the St George’s School community - staff, students and families alike - take the time to enjoy a different pace of life. I have heard around the school and in the staff room of many adventures overseas. I especially wish our students and staff heading off on the Service Learning tour of Samoa with its visit to All Saints School, Samoa, a wonderfully rewarding time away.
Wishing you all very happy holidays.
