A father's love and strength are truly remarkable gifts. I am always touched when I see our Bayside dads and father figures walking their children into class, their large, protective hands gently cradling their children's small, innocent ones. How a child gazes up with love into their dad's warm, gentle eyes speaks volumes about their bond.
My own father is a man of faithfulness, loyalty, and deep love. Yet, as a young child, I was often frightened by his discipline and anger, which influenced how I perceived God, our Father. I imagined God as a stern judge, always looking down on me with disappointment.
Thankfully, Jesus revealed the true nature of our heavenly Father to me. These are some of the ways God is described in the Bible:
The Bible offers many descriptions of His character, but the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) is what truly opened my heart to understanding God's unconditional and eternal love. In this story, the father eagerly watches and waits for his wayward son, longing for his return. When he finally sees him from a distance, the father runs to him, embraces him, and welcomes him home with kisses—no judgement, no accusations, no shame, just pure love and mercy. This is how our heavenly Father loves each of us every single day.
I pray the dads, grandfathers and carers of our community will know how deeply loved they are by their children, families, and by God, our loving Father.

Join the Domino Train!
Primary students have been sent home a flyer to please bring in box of cereal to create a cereal box domino train on next Wednesday 11 September. All cereal will be donated by the Primary students to the community charity organisation 'Pantry Plus' at Peninsula City Church in Frankston South.
Book Week is Here!
Reading Hour
Unfortunately, Book Week Reading Hour had to be cancelled due to the extreme weather. Our wonderful librarians hope to reschedule this fun event, so if and when a new date is confirmed, it will be communicated to families via email.
Book Character Parade
The Primary Book Character Parade is on this coming Thursday 5 September from 9:15am in the Primary G-Block. Parents and carers are invited to attend to join in the celebration! If you have a pre-schooler in your home they too are invited to dress up as their favourite character.
Mark Greenwood
Have you heard the story about a gold reef in Central Australia that is still yet to be discovered? What about the man who escaped every gaol in Australia? These were just some legendary stories told to the Year Three-Six students by Australian author Mark Greenwood.
Mark presented a one-hour adventurous journey sharing iconic characters and events from history. The students and teachers were captivated throughout the presentation. When Mark pulled out a bag of diamonds and a solid chunk of gold, the students were up on their knees, and the buzz of “Oohs and Aahs” was a delight to hear. Mark has the gift of drawing his audience into the story and leaving them wanting more.
Mark is a history hunter. He enjoys solving baffling mysteries, searching for glittering treasure and seeking lost stories. Mark is renowned for following the steps of his characters. He explained, “These journeys of discovery help me balance creative interpretation with historical authenticity. Being in the setting I’m writing about, where the historical events occurred, is one of the crucial stages in bringing history to life.”
We have enjoyed Mark’s books in the library and during class time, sharing the excitement and adventure that each story brings. This dynamic encounter gave each student practical writing strategies to enhance and bring their stories to life. You can find Mark Greenwood's books at all libraries and good bookstores.
Father's Day Stall
Our Primary students had a wonderful time choosing a gift for their fathers, grandfathers and special friends at this year's Father's Day Stall. Thank you to our wonderful parents Amy Williams, Lauren Monaghan and Andrea Santospirito for their assistance setting up the stall and our incredible Primary students leaders who assisted in the day!
ELC Students Ease into Prep
As Prep teachers, it is always such an exciting time welcoming the 4-year-old kindergarten students into the Prep classrooms. We understand that this time can also cause nerves, as the transition to school is a big milestone in each child’s journey. Our aim is to allow the students to be comfortable with their new surroundings for the following year.
The session starts with the 4-year-olds listening to a story on the mat. In the first session, Mrs Martin read ‘From Head to Toe’ by Eric Carle, and the 4-year-olds eagerly copied the actions of the animals. In the second session, Mrs Bolden read ‘Bin Chicken Feeding Time at the Zoo’ by Kate and Joel Temple, and we were not sure whether the bin chicken was going to get lunch as he tried to eat each animal’s food at the zoo.
Following the story sessions, the 4-year-olds are encouraged to engage in a variety of activities that cater to their different interests and skills. They can play with toys such as cars, engage in colouring activities, play with dolls, or build structures with blocks. After the playtime, we engage in a Q&A session and sing some songs before the 4-year-olds return to the ELC.

Why do we do competitions?
We are thrilled to see so many of our Year 3-6 students recently took part in two significant academic challenges: the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee and the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).
In the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee, our students tackled the task of spelling increasingly difficult words, which not only tested their spelling abilities but also encouraged them to expand their vocabulary and think on their feet. Their enthusiasm and commitment to the challenge reflect their dedication and passion for learning.
Additionally, selected students participated in the ICAS Competitions, covering subjects such as English, Mathematics, Spelling, and Writing. ICAS, known for its rigorous assessments, offers students the opportunity to benchmark their skills against peers nationally and internationally. Our participants approached these assessments with confidence and a strong determination to succeed.
Participating in academic competitions offers students a multitude of benefits, including the development of critical skills such as problem-solving, research, and time management. Competitions also inspire a deeper passion for learning, motivate students to pursue their interests and teach resilience and adaptability through the challenges they present. By exposing students to real-world problems, academic competitions help them see the practical applications of their knowledge, guide them toward potential career paths, and foster a lifelong love for learning.
Although we are still awaiting the results of both the Spelling Bee and ICAS competitions, we are incredibly proud of all our students for their hard work and dedication. Regardless of the outcomes, their willingness to embrace these challenges is a testament to their pursuit of academic excellence.

Year 5/6 Basketball Rally Day
Our Year 5/6 students had a fantastic time at the Basketball Rally Day! The boys' team put in a tremendous effort and secured an impressive 2nd place finish, while the girls' team played with great determination, finishing 4th overall.
With a total of 10 games played throughout the day, there was no shortage of excitement, teamwork, and of course, a lot of sweat!
A big shout-out to our sensational coach, Mr. P and Mrs Wheeler, for their guidance and encouragement. The students showcased excellent sportsmanship and had a blast, making it a truly memorable day for everyone involved.
Bayside Radiers Basketball
It is that time of the year again where all basketball players and those who want to be are called to register. With our summer season coming up, we are looking for new players in all of our age groups, especially U8 (Prep) and U14 (Years 5 & 6) boys and girls teams.
If your child is interested but hasn’t played before, please contact our committee on president.bccraiders@gmail.com
or call 0400172188.
If you have previously indicated your interest verbally, please confirm that you are still looking for a team. We can’t guarantee that we will have enough players to make teams, but we will try our best!
