Visit from Mr. Svigos
The ELC3 students celebrated Book Week last week by dressing up as favourite book characters. The children met author Mr. Russell Svigos, and listened to him read from some of his picture story books from the “Dewey the little raindrop” series. The children were also able to view his stories in video format on the interactive whiteboard.
You can view these from the following link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEKZKlTOzOo2O8tneQ-zwyw The children were each given a Dewey character, and were able to make Dewey shaped playdough pieces using the playdough cutters that Mr Svigos had made.
Library
This week, we walked to the library for a library lesson with Mrs Janine Mann. She read "Edwina the emu" by Sheena Knowles. The children enjoyed seeing the Lego bus that Mrs. Mann had made with an emu inside. The group did a fantastic job of sitting and listening to the story on the mat.
Making Honey Joys
The children took turns in pouring the ingredients for honey joys into the bowl, and mixing it all together. The mixture set in the fridge during the day and was ready to eat!

Transitioning into Prep
Before we started our transitions to prep, the children shared their feelings together and found that some were excited and happy to be able to see their siblings and play in the big playground, while others felt a bit nervous and unsure about the noises and people. We imagined what the classrooms may look like, spoke about the toilets being outside of the building, the bells that ring to alert students and teachers, the tables and chairs for doing work and brainstormed who we might see.
During the two visits they’ve had, the children did exceptionally well. Their experience was positive with them coming back to the ELC, telling each other, “I like the cars they have there,” and “I enjoyed playing with play dough and sitting on the coloured square mat.”
Special Visitor
Mr. Svigos came to tell us about the books he has written and illustrated leading up to Book Week and the children were given the opportunity to make their individual Deweys out of blue play dough, which they were able to take home. We will be exploring authors, illustrators and the characteristics of books in the next few weeks.
Father’s Day Breakfast
We had a lovely Father’s Day celebration at the ELC. Thank you to all the dads, grandma and mum who re-organised their busy schedules to come and play, spend time and have breakfast with your child. It meant a lot to your child to have you there and hopefully have created a wonderful memory for them to ponder back in the future. We hope the gift your child made for you will be enjoyed at home.
On behalf of our ELC team, we would like to wish all our wonderful dads, grandfathers and uncles, a ‘Happy Father’s Day!’
