Dear Parents and Carers,

The School Year is coming to a close and it is an incredibly busy time for everyone as we approach the Christmas Season. Two very important religious times precede the Christmas Season. These are the Feast of Christ the King, which was celebrated last Sunday and the advent Season which will start next Sunday. The Solemnity of Christ the King was instigated Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God out of man's thinking and living and organises his life as if God did not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ's royalty over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations.

Let us Pray:

Almighty ever-living God,

whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son,

the King of the universe,

grant, we pray, that the whole creation,

set free from slavery,

may render your majesty service and

ceaselessly proclaim your praise.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of

the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

The Season of Advent

Advent is a season observed in most Christian denominations as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming. Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year in Western Christianity.

Carols in the Courtyard

Next week, on Tuesday evening, 5th December, commencing at 6.30pm we will be celebrating the coming of Christmas with Carols in the Courtyard. Students in each Grade have learnt carols to entertain our community. Notes have been sent out on Compass with details of what each grade is expected to wear, the time of the performance, entry points to the school grounds and what to bring with you. If you missed this notification, please do not hesitate in contacting the school office for the necessary information.

A big thank you to Mrs Anne Allan and Mrs Marianne Niven for their hard work in putting together this event and in preparing the students for this special evening. All family groups are welcome to join us for this event and I look forward to celebrating the end of my first year as Principal with the Catherine McAuley family. Unfortunately, if there is wet weather, the Carols will need to be cancelled.

Year 5 Leadership Day

Last Friday, the students in Year five worked with a leadership coach to gain an understanding of the meaning of leadership and to look at leadership types and skills. This was a very successful day, with students gaining a better understanding of the importance of good leaders and what this means. I have subsequently spoken to the Year 5 students and outlined the school vision for student leadership in 2024. There are a number of leadership roles, with specific responsibilities. We will continue to have school Captains and Vice Captains. In the place of Prefects that had no specific roles, we will have 4 sport officers, 2 environmental officers, 2 media officers and 2 social officers. In addition to these roles, next year each class will elect an Student representative to serve on the SRC. If you have a student in Year 5 currently, please discuss these roles with them and ask them about the leadership day.
