Welcome Back to Term 4

Welcome back everyone to the last term for 2023. I'm sorry for the lateness of this newsletter but I only returned to work yesterday after a whirlwind trip across the USA. Anyway, enough about me... I hope you had a wonderful break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time as a family and re-charge the batteries for what will be a busy but exciting term ahead!

Lego Land!

On Wednesday, our Year Preps kick-started the term with a trip to the Lego Land Discovery Centre as part of their Once Upon a Build Inquiry Unit.

The children took part in a Workshop led by the staff at Lego Land where they worked in teams to build a Spinning Top. They were asked to test different-sized spinning tops to see which would spin faster!

They were then immersed into the wonderful world of Lego.  It was great to see the children diving head first into building different creations throughout the Centre!

Overall they had a ball and there were quite  a few naps on the bus ride home!

Thank you to our parent helpers Samantha and Rebecca for being so generous with their time to join us in looking after the children.

Fun Friday Electives

The first of our Fun Friday Electives started today with students and staff really excited about their chosen electives.

For the first 4 weeks of next term, we are running our Fun Friday Electives Program.

All staff have prepared a 4-week elective program of interest and all children have chosen the elective they would like to be involved in ranging from Dance, Yoga, Lego Creations, Japanese Culture, Origami, Gymnastics and much more.

Children have been placed into cross-age groups (Year Prep-2 and Years 3-6) and we hope this program will be an engaging way to start the term.

Judging by the enthusiasm today, it should prove a hit!

School Disco

As you are aware, this year’s School Disco will be held next Friday 13th October from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.  This is the social event of the year for our children and should prove a huge hit!

THIS WILL BE A MOBILE PHONE-FREE EVENT.

Mobile phones will not be permitted to be brought into the hall.

An Operoo Form requesting volunteers will be sent out today and we will contact those we require on the night. If you miss out this time, never fear... there will be plenty more opportunities for you in the future.

Our parent volunteers will be assigned to various supervision tasks throughout the evening so we ask parents to drop their children off at 6:30 pm and return to collect them at 8:00 pm sharp.

Our Disco is open only to children in Years Prep-6 and the cost is $10.00 per child ($15 per family), payable at the door on the night. Once inside, children will not be permitted to leave the hall until the conclusion when they are collected by their parents.

Our always-popular Candy Corner will operate,

where children can purchase goodies such as chips and snacks as well as glow sticks!

Our School Disco is always a popular event on the calendar and this year will be no exception!

Multicultural Day

As communicated to families earlier this week, our Multicultural Day will be held on Wednesday 25th October.

This is an exciting day where we, as a school community, will celebrate our diversity. The children will participate in FOUR special activities they have selected from the following choices:

  • Yarn Wrapped Lizards - Australia/Oceania
  • Soccer Clinic - Europe
  • Scratchboard lanterns - Asia
  • Windchimes - Asia
  • Dreamcatchers - North America
  • Paddle  Balls - North America
  • Beaded Jewellery - Africa
  • “RIO” The Movie - South America
  • Pizzelle (Waffle) Making - Europe

As a part of the celebrations, a special lunch is being organised for the children by our wonderful PFA. More details will be available closer to the day.

To add to the atmosphere, we would love the children to come to school dressed in something that reflects multiculturalism to their family. In the past we have been graced with the presence of an international soccer player, a Roman soldier, a Spanish dancer, an ancient Egyptian and even a Disney Princess or two. Of course, this is entirely optional, but the children will have the opportunity to parade their costumes at our special Assembly.

We are really looking forward to this exciting day and we thank Signora Catrina Anderson in advance for all the work she has put into organising such an event.

Interschool Sport

Our Interschool Sports Program resumes this term with our Year 5/6 children competing in the Footscray District Summer Sports Competition.

Our children will be competing in basketball, bat-tennis, newcombe and cricket. Competition commences next Friday 13th October and we wish them well.

Swimming Program

Our Year Prep-4 Swimming Program commences on Monday 30th October and will run for seven (7) consecutive days at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre.

Swimming is part of the Physical Education curriculum and it is expected that all students attend.  Students will travel to and from the venue by bus each day and each lesson runs for 43 minutes.

More details will be sent home to families via Operoo in the next week or so.

Feels Like Winter

Who would have thought that after the wonderful weather last week, we would begin the term in what feels like winter. So what uniform do our children wear?

Over the next few weeks please choose the most appropriate uniform to match our Melbourne weather. Then by the end of Week 3 we ask that all children be wearing their Summer Uniform.

If you need new uniform requirements, please do not leave it to the last minute. Uniform orders are to be submitted to the school office and are usually ready for collection the next day.

No Hat No Play

As per our SunSmart Policy, the children will also need to be wearing their school hats during recess, lunch and PE lessons in Term 4. This will be enforced from the beginning of next week. Children who do not have a hat will need to play under the shaded areas of the school.

Have wonderful Week

God Bless

Anthony Hyde
