Butterfly Foundation - Year 8 Students

On Tuesday 26 September 2023 we have invited the Butterfly Foundation to deliver a presentation to all Year 8 students - Let's Talk Body Image in a Digital World. Butterfly (butterfly.org.au) has been offering evidence-informed, age and developmentally appropriate programs in schools since 2007. The presentation is considered a universal prevention and health promotion program and will be delivered by a highly trained and experienced facilitator from the Butterfly Foundation. This presentation has been developed to consider the sensitive nature of this topic and the potentially vulnerable young people in the audience.

The focus of the presentation will be on:

  • Strategies to build resilience and improve self-esteem and body confidence
  • Understanding the various influences on body image and ways to manage these positively
  • Media and social media literacy skills to develop critical thinking to challenge body and appearance ideals, messaging and language
  • Modifiable risk factors that underpin the development of more serious body image and eating issues
  • Protective factors including the role of friends/peers, the importance of healthy relationships with their body, eating and physical activity, respecting diversity
  • The importance of help-seeking if they are worried for themselves or a friend

If you would like further information relating to this presentation, please don't hesitate to contact either Trish Menadue or Lou Giudici.

The Years 7-10 RoboCup teams are travelling to Melbourne for the RoboCup National Competition, which runs from Friday 6 October to Sunday 8 October. Please wish them all good luck as I am sure they will be very nervous to be participating in such a large and challenging event.
