Problem Solving at Skye Primary School

" Challenging Mathematical Tasks supports the idea that students learn best when they work on problems that they do not yet know how to solve" - Peter Sullivan

At Skye Primary School, we highly prioritize offering students the chance to delve into the productive struggle phase of problem-solving. Throughout a two-week period, 30% of math sessions across year levels are dedicated to the Problem Solving Model. This approach allows students to utilize their fluency, understanding, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities in real-world tasks that resonate with them. Moreover, it encourages collaborative learning, as students share and learn from their peers. Witness the remarkable problem-solving endeavours underway in our grade two and five classrooms this fortnight!
