Principal's Report

Tim Bernau | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

I hope this Week 3 update finds you well. As we venture further into the term, there’s plenty to be excited about in the coming fortnight!

Upcoming Dates to Remember

  • Mother’s Day Mixer (Monday 6th May 2:15pm - 3:15): A time to celebrate the wonderful women in our Skye community. Join us for some time in the classroom followed by the 'Mixer' event in the Gym.
  • Maths Open Afternoon (Tuesday 21st May 2:15pm - 4:30pm): Join us for a fun and insightful afternoon of Maths. Parents will join their child/ren in classrooms to learn about our teaching and learning approaches and participate in a range of Maths games that can be also used to support and consolidate Maths learning at home.

Introducing Our Eco Warriors

Under the guidance of Mrs Weiss and Ms Grant, Skye Primary is proud to announce the formation of our very first team of Eco-Warriors! Committed to sustainability and conservation, our Eco-Warriors believe in making a tangible impact through mindful practices like water conservation and composting. We look forward to their innovative projects that promise to make our school environment even greener.

Writer in Residence Program

We are thrilled to welcome Cassy Polimeni, a published author, as our Writer in Residence. Starting this week, Cassy will mentor 25 budding writers from Years 3 - 6 in a series of four workshops. These sessions are designed to nurture creativity and enhance our students’ skills in storytelling, character creation, and editing. The culmination of this program will be a book launch where each participant will receive a copy of the anthology containing their stories. Thanks to Ardoch for facilitating this amazing opportunity!

Student Excellence Awards

Congratulations to the students who received Excellence Awards at our last assembly:

  • Jordie W (Year 6)
  • Jett M (Year 6)
  • Ruairi James (Year 4)
  • Kenzie H (Year 3)

We are proud of your effort and dedication. Keep up the great work!

Supporting Jasmine

Let’s rally around Jasmine L, a courageous Year 2 student, as she prepares for her big haircut at Assembly to raise funds for a noble cause. Jasmine’s commitment to helping others is inspiring!

You might have heard that I’m chopping off my hair and donating it to Variety - the Children’s Charity! My hair will be used to make wigs for those who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.

Variety helps thousands of kids who are sick, experiencing disadvantage, or living with a disability to live, laugh and learn through various grants and programs including granting wigs to kids that have lost their hair due to a medical condition, for example, alopecia. Wigs give these kids, like Kyla, more confidence and better self-esteem so they can feel like themselves again. But wigs can cost thousands and last only 1-2 years.

I’m aiming to raise 500. Please don’t be shy, every little bit counts!

You can donate at my fundraising page right now. Here’s the link:

Thanks in advance for your generosity - it means a lot!

2025 Foundation Enrolments Now Open

We are now accepting enrolments for our 2025 Foundation year. Please visit our website for more information or pick up a hard copy of the enrolment forms at the school office. We encourage you to share this information with any friends and family who are considering joining our community.

Challenge Partner - School Review

Please note that I will be serving as a Challenge Partner for a school review panel at another primary school for three days over the next two weeks. Challenge partners are selected to offer an external, independent perspective on the school's practices and performances. I look forward to bringing back some valuable insights that will benefit our own school’s continuous improvement.

Have a great couple of weeks.

Warm regards,

Tim
