Connect: Year 4

March 2024

As we approach winter, the mornings are becoming colder and wetter, resulting in our soccer pitch and football oval being damp in the mornings. To maintain the dryness of our students' school uniforms throughout the day, we kindly request that they refrain from playing on these fields in the morning. For parents whose children are enthusiastic players on the soccer pitch or football oval, we suggest packing a spare change of clothes in their school bag in case the field remains wet during recess or lunch, ensuring their comfort throughout the day.

Literacy

Throughout literacy over the next two weeks we are:

* Identifying Non-Fiction text structures, their importance and how they assist us in locating information.

* Planning and writing a structured argument.

* Presenting our structured arguments in the form of a debate to our special guest audience.

Vocabulary Words

Maths

Our multiplicative learning sequence is well underway and our students are exploring solving multiplication equations through a range of manipulatives and strategies that are most efficient for the individual. They are justifying and providing evidence for their solution by tracking their thinking on whiteboards, post it notes and their maths books.

Problem Solving

Our students will be applying their additive and multiplicative thinking when solving our upcoming tasks. They are particularly playing close attention to our School Wide Expectations of 'I always try my best' and ' I am persistent and resilient' when finding ALL possible combinations.

It's safe to say we had a few frustrated faces when the first task was presented to them this week, Go Dees!

Inquiry

Over the next fortnight your children will be delving into the concept of connections as they learn about how we make connections in our minds and in our lives through our Inquiry topic 'Our Island Home'. They will further explore these connections through a variety of outdoor activities and games and demonstrate their current understanding of climates and natural and built environments.

Wellbeing

Through the Zones of Regulation the students will be tracking their emotions and identifying the variety of zones they experience throughout a standard day. By using the Zones of Regulation along with their Ready to Learn Scales it will encourage students to acknowledge their emotions and independently choose an appropriate strategy to assist them in reengaging with the learning.

Kitchen Garden

Our students had a fantastic time in their Kitchen Garden sessions this week. They particularly enjoyed hand making gnocchi and devouring the delicious bread with sage butter. The radish salad was less popular however we are very proud of those who tried it for the first time.

3/4 Hoop-time

Any students wishing to participate in this years 3/4 Hoop-time competition can register interest by completing the form sent out this week via Sentral. This year our Hoop-time competition will be held on Thursday the 23rd May at Frankston Basketball Stadium.

We are hoping to take as many teams as possible again this year and encourage anyone to get involved no matter how much basketball experience you have previously.
