What weather are you going to decide on next week Melbourne? Our fine city is choosing to keep us on our toes with the cool/warm weather of late. Just a quick reminder to encourage your child to wear some warmer clothing as the mornings get chillier and chillier! Feel free to send your child with a navy blue jacket and scarf too. A spare pair of pants or socks also is handy in case of a slip on a wet day. Thanks for your help, we know sometimes its tricky to convince them to rug up!
Home Reading: Just a quick reminder about the importance of home reading to help consolidate the skills we have been learning at school. If you need support to help encourage your child to read at home, please feel free to speak to us!Â

Mother's Day Mixer - This coming Monday 6th May! We have a lovely little surprise along with an afternoon tea. Hope to see you there!
Any students wishing to participate in this years 3/4 Hoop-time competition can register interest by completing the form sent out this week via Sentral. This year our Hoop-time competition will be held on Thursday 23rd May at Frankston Basketball Stadium.Â
We are hoping to take as many teams as possible again this year and encourage anyone to get involved no matter how much basketball experience you have previously.
Literacy:Â
We have starting diving into the world of whales this fortnight! We have continued to tie in our mentor text 'Walk of the Whales' along with some non-fiction factual texts covering a range of species. This has linked with locating information, scientific vocabulary and the concept of 'cause and effect'. We will move into texts about life cycles and linking alot of our reading to our visit to Moonlit this week!Â
We have also been establishing our Word Walls - check these out during our Mother's Day mixer and open afternoons. There is a mix of words found in our big texts and academic words that we are adding to our knowledge.
Â
Numeracy:Â
This week we have consolidated our understanding of place value. We revisit this topic frequently to make sure our knowledge is solid! The students have worked hard to write numbers, expand them, regroup them and rename them. This will lead into some work with fractions next week. We will continue our work on problem solving too... the students are building some great resilience with this!
Â
Inquiry:Â
Moonlit Sanctuary this year was once again a hit. The bonus was that although some students had been in recent years, our program was slightly updated which meant we got to experience more variety. We would like to congratulate our students on their impeccible manners and for representing our school with pride. We had a few comments and compliments, so thankyou! Thank you to our parent helpers who also came along!Â
Check out some of the amazing photos below, especially the emus having a bath! (Don't worry about Ronald the Tasmanian devil.... he's just sunbaking!)
Â
Wellbeing:Â
Do you what Zones of Regulation are? Has your child talked about it with you? I have attached a YouTube video to help explain this. We will continue to work on understanding the zones in all of us through a booklet over the next fortnight.Â
Kitchen Garden: In the kitchen this fortnight, the students have been busy making a variety of things and preparing the gardens for more ingredients. The students made 'burnt butter and sage gnocchi' - which was INCREDIBLE. They also worked hard to plant peas and cabbage. Lastly, Mrs Furlong had us busy harvesting pumpkins. A big thank you to Mrs Furlong for providing this amazing experience for our children.
