Mazenod Panthers All Abilities vs Mazenod Students AFL Footy Match

The spirit of the Mazenod community was on full display as we cheered on a thrilling game of footy last Wednesday evening, between the Mazenod Panthers All Ability Football Club and Mazenod students. The players soaked up every moment, reveling in the excitement. Hats off to the Panthers for clinching an eight-point victory and retaining the Sharp/Johnson Shield for another year!

2024 Musical Update

The College musical is still moving full steam ahead with Sunday rehearsals and construction sessions happening each week. Here we have attached a sneak preview of some of the costumes that are being created by the design team to help the characters come alive. There is a lot of time and hard work involved in this process but it will all be worth it when the show comes alive on stage. We look forward to seeing you there next term. Please keep your eyes and ears open for further updates, including when and where tickets can be purchased.

House Volleyball Championship

Continuing with the development of Mazenod's Volleyball program, a new House Volleyball Championship took place last week, with legendary Mazenod Volleyball former staff members, Joe Moore and Damien Schumann, in attendance to present the Joe Moore Medal to the Grand Final MVP, and the Damien Schumann Shield to the victorious house.

Before the Grand Final was underway, Damien shared some words of encouragement with our budding volleyballers, defining his journey and giving hope to those students that want to achieve greatness.

Damien proclaimed, "I went from not making the Year 7 Volleyball team and being told I'd never be able to play for Australia, to being top ten in the world and winning a Commonwealth Games gold medal."

When discussing his mentality in the face of such adversity, Damien stated that "giving it everything you have is really, really important because looking back with disappointment is okay, but looking back with regret is really hard."

We congratulate Grandin house on their victory, with special congrats to Cian Mujie (Year 8) on his Grand Final MVP award, and thank Joe and Damien for their remarkable commitment and efforts!

Year 12 Drama Excursion: La Mama’s Carlton Courthouse Theatre

On Wednesday May 1stm Miss Kamevaar, Dr Fyfield and Ms Tribe joined the Year 12 Drama class on their excursion to La Mama’s Carlton Courthouse Theatre. There they watched a production of Garage Girls. This performance portrays the historical Melbourne figure of Alice Anderson. Mechanic. Trailblazer. Entrepreneur.

Imagine, 1920s Melbourne – the advent of the motorcar! Society reels from the aftermath of war and a second wave of Spanish flu wreaks havoc on the streets. Theatres buzz with vaudeville hacks and men with an eye for enterprise seize every opportunity to weasel wealth. Meanwhile, one small woman defies convention and makes her mark...

It was definitely an enjoyable production that allowed the students to experience a wide range of different theatre styles in the one production.

Year 8 Grandparents Day(s)

It was delightful to see our corridors filled with the rich history and experiences of our young students' loved ones this week for Year 8 Grandparents Day, living out St Eugene's maxim, "we have but one heart, one soul".

We’re grateful for the legacy that continues to inspire.

Drama: Commedia del’Arte

On Tuesday April 30th the Year 10 & 11 Drama classes came together to participate in a Commedia del’Arte workshop. The event was run by Scott Middleton, a highly experienced performer in this theatre style, who runs his own theatre company – Sheoakproductions. Commedia del’Arte is 16th century style of Italian comedy that involves large over the top comic characters, stylised movement and use of masks. This was an amazing experience for our student actors, who got the chance to be loud, energetic and creative. With each character they explored it was clear that they peeled off their inhibitions and truly enjoyed exploring how far they could take movements of the personas being portrayed.
