Reading
We have worked on summarising texts using the 5Ws (who, what, when, where, why). Students have done a great job so far. We will continue this next week using a mix of fiction and non-fiction texts. Students are currently being tested on their reading comprehension, so the more reading they can do at home the better.
Writing
Students have just completed information reports on a sea creature of their choice. The teaching focus has been on identifying topic sentences and the details that are used to support them. We have also developed our ability to take short notes using key words and use them to form sentences. The next information report will be about the lives of one of their classmates. This week students have been interviewing a partner to gather notes before writing their texts next week.
Numeracy
Students are beginning to explore fractions. We have discussed how to represent fractions, order fractions, identify equivalent fractions and convert improper fractions to mixed numbers. It would be great if you can discuss how fractions are used in real life situations (e.g. measurement).
Interschool Sports
Last week we started our next set of sports. This term, our students will be participating in lawn bowls, soccer, European handball and netball. We had a great first match against Dallas Brooks and many of our teams were successful and showed respect to the opposition, coaches and referees.
