Maths

In Maths this week, the 3/4s have been focusing on problem solving. We have had so much fun in the struggle pit- where students thinking is challenged. This week we looked at the following problem: On a farm there were some hens and sheep. Altogether there were 8 heads and 22 feet. How many hens were there? The students demonstrated thinking by using counters, drawing pictures and tables.

Writing

Our grade 4s have started the exciting journey of writing to their Literacy Buddies. They have written their first letter, which has been sent off to their buddy. In their letters, grade 4s have introduced themselves, shared information such as their favourite food and hobbies. We excitedly wait for our response letters from our Big Buddy's . Our grade 3s began their Author in Residence Program, where an author will visit the students and teach writing skills over several weeks.

Mother's and Others Day Preparation

In preparation for Mother's Day, the grade 3/4s have worked all together as a cohort to make cards and design heart magnets. We enjoyed this activity with all of the cohort working together, sharing resources and ideas on how to design their magnets. Students also had an opportunity to visit Mother's and Others Day Stall.

SEL

Our focus in Social and Emotional Learning this week has been on gratitude. Gratitude can be defined as the act of being thankful and appreciating what you have in life. Rather than focusing on what you don't have or want, the focus shifts to all that you have. We have listed things that we are grateful for at home and at school.

Grade 3 Author Visit

The grade 3s were very fortunate to have a visit from a published author, Heather Gallagher. She shared some of her stories that have been published and then discussed the process of how an idea can inspire a story. Heather is going to work with the grade 3s over the coming week! She is going to help students write poems which will be published in a book!

Inquiry

This week we have been continuing to explore our inquiry topic of First Nation People and our understanding of Country and Place. We have looked at Dreamtime and how art plays an important role in community and togetherness. The grade 3/4s are currently working on a collaborative Rainbow Serpent artwork, which when joined will display the Beginning of Dreamtime and Creation, through the Aboriginal lens.
