Literacy

Our literacy investigations are taking us into facts and opinions.

A fact is something that is real. You can prove a fact.

An opinion is something that you think or believe.

Other people might think or believe something that is different, and that is OK!

FACT: A cat has four legs and a tail.

OPINION: Chocolate ice-cream is the most delicious flavour.

Ask your child the following. Would these be facts or opinions?

1. If you mix red and yellow, it makes orange.

2. Dogs make the best pets.

3. People need food and water to survive.

4. Barbies are the best toys to play with.

5. Summer is the best season.

Numeracy

We have been working hard on developing our number fluency with aspects of addition like knowing our doubles facts and speeding up our recall of the pairs to 10. Pairs to 10 is a great skill to develop as it is an essential component of solving addition and subtraction problems. You can play Hit the Button to help build number fluency. This is available as a free maths website by Topmarks, or as a paid app, that challenges students to recall as many number facts as they can in one minute. Fun for the whole family! Who is the pairs to ten champion in your household?

 SEL/ Inquiry

As part of our Inquiry question ‘How do we connect to where we live?’ we have investigated Google Earth and Google Maps. Students love getting a bird’s eye view of the community we live in.

Our school wellbeing team has been sharing resources with the teachers about best learning.

A healthy, happy child is a good learner.

One way you can support a healthy, happy child is with:

HEALTHY EATING

Children learn and grow best when they eat a wide range of healthy foods and drink water. Eating a healthy breakfast helps to set your body and mind up for your best learning.

Celebrating and showcasing our classes

Our cohort assembly is held every second Friday, starting at 2:30pm. It is a great chance for the Foundation and Year 1/2 students to come together and celebrate our successes.

Last Friday we launched our all new format for assembly, including a section named ‘Celebrating and Showcasing our Classes’. The first grade to lead this was 1/2A. Tasneem, Romika, Scarlett, and Batoul shared some questions the students in 1/2A would like to ask the characters from the story Cinderella. They did a wonderful job presenting and 1/2A were really proud of them.

Well done Tasneem, Romika, Scarlett, and Batoul!

Our next cohort assembly will be Friday 17th May at 2:30pm.

Our next grade to showcase their learning will be: 1/2B

Families are most welcome to attend!
