Year Advisers Reports

Years 8, 10 & 12

Year 8 have had a settled start to Term 2. The team environment we created last term, has been brought into Term 2 as we continue to work towards being a cohesive group built on our five key principles:

Empathy, Teamwork, Resilience,

Responsibility and Gratitude.

The term has begun with some key events in the calendar. Last week Year 8 have had the opportunity to partake in the Love Bites Wellbeing Day.

The Love Bites Wellbeing Day was an opportunity for students to participate in three workshops that provided an opportunity for them to engage in critical thinking conversations regarding values and identity, respect, consent, bullying and being safe online. These activities created opportunities for the students to work together and work towards common goals, as well having fun throughout the day. Alongside these workshops, the students were able to participate in a creative session at the conclusion of the day, creating their own bunting with a piece of information they found important on the day. This Year 8 bunting will be put together and placed in the library to represent the year group and their cohesion.

Next Week, Henry Kendall High School also has our annual Athletics Carnival. Students are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability on the day and immerse themselves in the spirit of the day by wearing their house colours. Each event that students participate in, brings points towards their house total.

Year 8 have had a strong start to Term 2 and I look forward to working with you all for the remainder of Term 2 and beyond in 2024.

Year 8 Adviser

We would like to dedicate this newsletter report to the memory of Lachlan James, who we sadly lost at the start of Term 2 after a very courageous battle with illness.

Lachlan was a lover of music and he played a big role in the Year 10 music class and bands. He was always willing to get on stage and perform. Everyone who knew him knew how much he loved his music and performances, especially OnTrack.

At this year’s OnTrack we remembered and celebrated Lachlan’s love of music and performance. Thank you to Lachlan’s closest friends Jayden McDonald, Charlie Willcox, Nicholas Venuto, William Hunter and Ryan Hill who paid tribute to Lachlan with a beautifully written and presented speech accompanied by a  special performance of one of Lachlan’s favourite songs, ‘Roadhouse Blues’ by The Doors.

Lachlan was always willing to lend a hand to new students joining our school community and was always there for his friends. We will miss Lachlan and his contribution to our school community.

Lachlan's parents and his brothers are in our thoughts.

If you or someone you know needs to speak to someone, please reach out to Student Services or one of us.

Year 12 students are currently halfway through their second-to-last term of school, which is a mix of excitement and apprehension for everyone involved.

Many Year 12 students are diligently working on their major projects in subjects like Timber, Art, Society and Culture, Software Design and Development, Music, Drama, and Extension English. These projects hold great importance, and the dedication shown by both students and teachers is truly commendable. The anticipation to see the final product is high.

This term we kicked off Week 5 with the lively OnTrack event, one of the most anticipated nights of the year. This event was particularly poignant as it marked the final one for Year 12 students, who truly shined. Year 12 Music students delivered numerous outstanding performances, showcasing their remarkable talents.

Coming upp next is our yearly Athletics Carnival on Monday 3 June 2024 which will be the last sports carnival for the Year 12 group. Expect fantastic costumes and a memorable experience for all.

Don't miss the Stage 6 Parent-Teacher night on Tuesday 18 June 2024, providing a final opportunity to talk to your child's teachers in person. We are eager to see you there!
