Year Advisers Report

Years 7, 9 & 11

Year 7 have come back to school in Term 2 with a lot more confidence and cohesion as a year group following the Year 7 Camp. Our camp was a huge success with the students who attended enjoying the challenging outdoor activities. Some activities included, the high ropes, archery, rock-climbing wall and giant swing. The students' behaviour was excellent throughout our camp and there were minimal to no incidents over the three days.

Since returning in Term 2, a lot of Year 7 students have been earning their Bronze and Silver Awards via our Sentral class awards system. To gain a Bronze Award, students have accrued 50 Sentral points for things like good behaviour and quality work. To gain a Silver Award, students have accrued 100 Sentral points.

Congratulations to all for putting in an excellent effort with their class behaviour and work.

This term has been the first term for Year 7 where they have been able to choose their own school sport. So far, sport has been travelling smoothly and I have been proud of Year 7's behaviour at school sport.

Mrs Julia Kostalas

Year 7 Adviser

Welcome to Term 2! I hope you all had a restful break and are ready for an exciting and productive term ahead. It's wonderful to see the energy and enthusiasm as we dive into new learning opportunities and activities. We have an action-packed term planned, with numerous events and important academic milestones.

We have the Athletics Carnival this term so get ready to show your school spirit and athletic prowess at our annual carnival! This event is not just about competing, but also about having fun, cheering on your peers and winning points for your sporting house. It's a great opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, resilience, and school pride. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just looking to participate for fun, there's something for everyone.

Also for our music enthusiasts, OnTrack was held on Tuesday evening. This was a fantastic platform for our talented students to showcase their musical skills and creativity.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting a guest speaker from Headspace, Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation. This session will provide valuable insights into mental health and well-being, offering strategies and support for managing stress and maintaining a healthy balance between school and personal life. It's an important topic, especially as we navigate through the school year.

As we progress through the term, assessment tasks will start to roll out. It's crucial to stay organized and not leave your assignments to the last minute. Here are a few tips to help you manage your workload effectively:

  • Plan Ahead: Use a planner or digital calendar to keep track of due dates and set reminders.
  • Break It Down: Divide larger tasks into smaller, manageable chunks and set mini-deadlines.
  • Seek Help Early: If you're struggling with any subject, don't hesitate to reach out to your teachers. They are here to help you succeed.
  • Stay Focused: Create a quiet and dedicated study space free from distractions.

Remember, your teachers are a valuable resource, and staying in regular communication with them can make a big difference in your academic progress.

Let’s embrace this term with enthusiasm and commitment. There’s so much to look forward to and achieve. If you have any questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let's work together to make Term 2 a successful and enjoyable time for all.

Year 9 Adviser

Year 11 students have seamlessly transitioned back into the rhythm of Term 2. Despite the demanding end of Term 1 filled with various assessment tasks, they have shown remarkable perseverance. This week marks the halfway point of Year 11. Time sure does fly when you're having fun!

Several of our students have been engaging in extracurricular activities such as performing arts, debating, mock trials, and sports commitments. Congratulations to Jessica Bewley from Year 11 for earning the People's Choice Award for her piece 'Desperation' at the A Central Vision Exhibition held at the Gosford Regional Gallery. A well-deserved achievement!

One of the most difficult skills to learn at school is effective time management. Balancing various subjects, assignments, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments can be overwhelming for students. However, by developing a schedule, setting priorities, and breaking tasks into smaller, manageable chunks, students can enhance their productivity and reduce stress levels. Time management skills not only help in academic success but also in building a foundation for a successful future. Practice and consistency are key in mastering this valuable skill.

The other important skill to learn while at school is asking for help, this is a valuable skill that can greatly contribute to your success in school and beyond. It shows that you are willing to seek support and guidance when faced with challenges. Remember, there is no shame in asking for help - it is a sign of strength and resourcefulness. Whether you need assistance understanding a complex topic, tackling a difficult assignment, or navigating personal issues, please reach out to your teachers, student services or myself. By being proactive and seeking help when needed, you are taking an important step towards achieving your goals.

There are a couple of upcoming events:

  • Athletics Carnival Monday 3 June (Week 6) at Mingara Regional Athletics Centre. Year 11's 2 last Athletics Carnival!!
  • Stage 6 Parent Teacher Interviews Tuesday 18 June from 4.00pm-7.00pm.
