Year 7 Camp

At the conclusion of Term 1, Year 7 attended the 3-day Great Aussie Bush Camp at Kincumber. This was a fantastic experience for all our new Year 7’s. Students got to try the leap of faith, giant swing, high ropes course, archery, fencing and the initiatives course. The night activities consisted of a teachers’ vs students commando challenge and games/trivia night which the students enjoyed.

A huge thanks must go to Mrs Kostalas for her planning and organisation in the lead up to the camp. The Year 10 Mentors and Year 10 Year Advisers, Mrs Bailey and Miss Diterlizzi for their support, Mr Kessler and Mr Rogers for their encouragement and natural enthusiasm while on camp.

Year 7 Student Interviews

Our vision at Henry Kendall is to inspire individuality through student voice. One way in which we have tried to promote this has been through student voice interviews which were conducted in the first part of Term 2.

The interview was an opportunity for some students to share their experience of Year 7 thus far. Each interview took place with a member of the SRC and Mrs Kostalas (Year 7 Year Adviser). Students were asked the following questions:

  1. What have you enjoyed most about starting at Henry Kendall High School?
  2. Tell us about a challenge that you have overcome?
  3. What advice would you give to a Year 7 student who is starting high school in 2025?
  4. After one term at Henry Kendall High School do you feel like you belong to our school community? If so, how?

It was great to hear from a portion of the Year 7 students about their first term at Henry Kendall High School. Students identified the practical subjects such as Science, TAS, PDHPE and Applied Learning as their most enjoyable. They also said that Year 7 Camp was a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends and bond as a year group.

Well done to all of the Year 7’s that took part in the interviews.

Year 9

Year 9 have made a great start to Term 2 and have begun to really thrive in their elective courses. Students have selected Computing Technology, Food Technology, Music, Physical Activity and Sports Studies and Visual Arts as their 200-hour options, and it has been great to see students in these courses working beyond the classroom. An example of this has been the PASS students signing up to help at the Point Clare Public School Athletics Carnival in Week 6.

The 100-hour options that Year 9 have selected this year include Agriculture, Child Studies, Commerce, Computer Technology, Food Technology, History Extension, Hospitality, Industrial Technology Timber, Photography, iStem and Visual Arts. Students in the Child Studies course have been working beyond the classroom by attending Gosford Primary School on a weekly basis to support Kindergarten, Stage One and Stage Two students with their literacy skills. This has helped our students develop their confidence and communication skills when working with children. A fantastic initiative.

Year 11

Year 11 have started their HSC journey and are more than halfway through the Year 11 course. Students will be soon coming into another busy assessment period, so it is important to be prepared and organised for each subject.

Students are encouraged to be in constant discussion with their classroom teachers about the expectations required in each subject. This will ensure that students are able to apply themselves with due diligence and sustained effort during this period.

Students are reminded to refer to their 2024 Assessment Policy and Schedule which can be found on the school website if they have any concerns about assessment procedures.
