Devotion, From the Principal, Prayer Families & Birthdays

DEVOTION

On ANZAC day we remember all those who have served in the armed forces, whose lives have been impacted by war and who still carry its scars. We thank God for the bravery of young men and women who put themselves in harm’s way for others. We do not celebrate war but acknowledge the courage and sacrifice that these people have made for us.

Jesus also spoke about the importance of sacrifice. He said, ‘I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep… I am the Good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me’ (John 10:11-14).

Every sheep needs a shepherd, or a farmer. Every child needs teachers and parents to care for them and guide them. Every nation needs citizens who put their hand up to be a protective presence in their society, like soldiers and police officers. We thank God for these people, including those who have recently come from interstate to serve us here in Alice Springs.

War goes on around the world. We never outgrow it. The wolves are real and human nature follows too easily. But in a world of bad news, it is good to know we have a Good Shepherd. He knows us, guides us and walks with us. He makes the ultimate sacrifice for us on the cross. Now He calls us to live lives of courage, sacrifice and service, and to work for peace in our world.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Werte

Welcome back to Term 2! The staff started the term continuing on our professional development about Compassionate Systems. This is an international research base that focuses on ways of being and working. The models presented help our staff communicate and understand, with a focus on emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is built into our curriculum at Living Waters but for a lot of us whose schooling was in the 70’s to 90’s it is not something we grew up with, nor was it widely talked about. It’s important for us as a staff to be on the same page about this as we upskill our students.

It is exciting to say that our mid-year entry class is nearly full. Students enrolled through a mid-year intake will complete six terms of Foundation. It is available to children who turn five in the second half of the year, after June 30th, 2024.  In the coming weeks we will have a parent meeting and the children will have their orientation mornings. If you have friends or family who are thinking of mid-year entry let them know enrolments close soon.

Our Value for the first few weeks this term is “Remain on Task”. Classes have talked about what this looks like and what it means for our peers if we take responsibility for ourselves and “Remain on Task”.  Earlier last week it was great to see evidence of this in the Reef where some students were moving themselves away from distractions and aiming to “Remain on Task”. Please chat around the dinner table about how your child shows the focus value at school.

We have a busy term ahead with camps, excursions, Eisteddfod, cross country and sports day, not to mention our famous Mother’s Day Breakfast! We look forward to seeing the community at these events. Don’t forget you are welcome every Wednesday and Friday at 8:30 am for worship or assembly.

Blessings,

Mrs Lisa Goldsworthy
