Agriculture

Exciting news from our school farm!

We're delighted to announce the arrival of not one, but two litters of adorable piglets! Our stud Berkshire sows, 'ASC Hog Ranch Bianca Betina' and 'ASC Hog Ranch Lass,' have proudly welcomed these bundles of joy into the world. It's heartwarming to see how many folks from the community stop by to admire them.

These little cuties will soon be available as weaners for local farmers to raise on their own land. But before they move on to their new homes, our students will have the incredible opportunity to learn all about pig care and management in our fantastic free-range piggery.

As part of our agricultural curriculum, our Year 9 students will be conducting a weight gain trial, collecting data, and presenting their findings using tables and graphs. It's hands-on learning at its best, teaching valuable skills in animal husbandry and experimental design. Stay tuned for updates on our piggy adventures!

Dubbo Show

Our livestock team kids and their trusty piggy companions are all settled in for the Dubbo Show!

From grooming to practising their showmanship skills, our students have poured their hearts into preparing for this moment.

It's not just about the competition; it's about showcasing the dedication and hard work that goes into raising these incredible animals. Win or lose, we're incredibly proud of each and every one of them!

What an incredible day at the Dubbo Show! Our young sows in the pig shed really strutted their stuff and brought home some impressive results:

2nd place in Berkshire sow 6 months and under 7 months.

1st place in Berkshire sow 7 months and under 9 months.

Junior champion Berkshire sow.

1st place pen of porkers.

3rd place in the Interbreed sow class.

Hats off to our amazing team and their hard work! But the excitement didn't stop there. With "Kurrali Suffolks" sheep, the kids faced some spirited competition but held their own:

Matty Andrew and Jack Clayton's took 3rd and 5th place in the ewe 2 tooth and over class.

Mackenna Taylor did a stellar job parading the shorn August ram.

The boys impressively showing the shorn August ewes.

Our talented pig judging team has brought home some impressive accolades:

Mackenna Taylor secured 3rd place in the under 15s pig judging category.

Clare Kelly also clinched 3rd place, this time in the 15 and under 25s pig judging division.

Matty Andrews showcased remarkable skills and earned 2nd place in the 15 and under 25s pig judging category.

Alijah Snape, who took home 1st place in the 15 and under 25s pig judging competition! Outstanding job!

What an incredible journey it's been, filled with memorable moments and impressive achievements.

Our students showcased their versatility and courage as they ventured into the Sheep young judges and handling competitions, stepping out of their comfort zones and into unfamiliar territory with grace and determination.

In the Merino judging, long wool meat sheep, and short wool meat sheep categories, our students demonstrated their keen eye for detail and discernment, evaluating breeds like Corriedale rams and Dorper ewes with precision. Special mention to Clare Kelly, who made her debut leading a sheep and impressed everyone with her poise and skill, earning a spot in the senior handling finals!

Aliyah Snape's exceptional handling of Merino ram fleeces earned her well-deserved recognition, being selected by the overjudge for the prestigious "Roseville Park Merino Stud Wool Handling Award" among nearly 100 senior young judge entrants. What an outstanding accomplishment!

A huge round of applause to Felicity, Matty, Jack, Aliyah, Mackenna, and Clare for their remarkable achievements over the past four days. They represented our school with excellence, and our little pigs were undoubtedly proud ambassadors!

Now, it's time for our champions to bask in the glory of their accomplishments and enjoy a well-deserved rest. We couldn't be prouder of each and every one of them!
