Hope Blooms at Marian College: A Semester of Inspiration

Marian College has been buzzing with activity throughout Semester One with a spirit of hope permeating the classrooms. From acts of community care, such as welcoming the new Year 7 students with a bonding camp experience, to solemn commemorations as the ANZAC Day service, students and staff fostered a sense of optimism of hope for the future, building on the 2024 Core Value of Hope: Bringing a sense of purpose.

Term One concluded with the annual Easter Liturgy which explored the Road to Emmaus. The students helped plan and reenact the moments of hope Jesus’ gave his followers after the Crucifixion.

Term Two incorporated a powerful ANZAC Day service. Student Leaders joined by Ms Romano and Ms Attard, gathered to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served in past conflicts and current peacekeeping efforts. The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, a quality Marian College actively cultivates.

The Mother's Day breakfast saw a heartwarming display of appreciation. The VET Events students along with Ms Ciantar donned their aprons and flipped pancakes and breakfast burgers to treat our mother figures and their daughters to a beautiful experience. The delicious aroma and lively atmosphere were testament to the power of community and the insightful words from our guest speaker, Sally Caruana.

Innovation thrived in the Year 9/10 Religious Education class with the "Hope for the Future" project, where students designed inventions for a sustainable future. Ideas ranged from solar-powered water purification to biodegradable packaging. This project sparked discussions about sustainability, faith in action and Catholic Social Teachings. The Net Zero Student Club also championed environmental initiatives, including a petition against fracking in the Beetaloo Basin.

The Year 12 Living Justice Living Peace Religious Education classes echoed with lively discussion on social issues where students explored how their faith intersected with societal justice challenges and created adverts to pin around the College.  This led into a project framed around interviewing inspirational women who shared how their faith fuelled their passion and shaped their lives.

The culmination of these efforts was a palpable sense of optimism. Students continue to work through Semester One with a renewed sense of purpose after the term break, ready to tackle the challenges ahead. Marian College's unwavering focus on hope ensures its students are not only equipped with knowledge but empowered by a belief in a brighter tomorrow.
