Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders and School Captains Visit Local Kindergartens

In a lovely initiative aimed at fostering a sense of community and easing the transition to school, our Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders and School Captains have been visiting local kindergartens. These visits are part of our school's ongoing effort to support younger children transiting to school and promoting positive interactions between different age groups.

The visits have been an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Our Year 6 leaders were enthusiastic about the opportunity to connect with the kindergarten children, and their efforts were met with smiles and excitement, with some of the kinder kids not wanting them to leave.

Activities and Highlights

Art activities: The kindergarten children loved creating artwork with the guidance and assistance of our Year 6 leaders. Whether it was painting, drawing, or crafting, the collaborative art projects were a big hit. Our leaders showed patience and creativity, helping with sketching, pasting and cleaning up!

Storytelling Sessions: Our Wellbeing Leaders and School Captains took turns reading a big book to the kindergarten children, capturing their imaginations. The younger children loved the book and sat quietly and attentively enjoying the story. This activity not only promoted a love for reading but also showed how well the children respond to older children reading to them, something that we also like to promote at school.

Games and Playtime: No visit to a kinder would be complete without some fun and games. The Year 6 leaders joined in various games, ensuring that every child was included and having fun. From simple playground games to indoor imaginative play, like hairdressing and block building, these interactions were filled with laughter and joy.

Building Connections and Confidence

One of the main goals of the visit was to reassure the kindergarten children about starting school. Seeing the friendly faces of older students who are thriving at school helped to alleviate some of the common anxieties associated with this big step. Our Year 6 leaders shared their own positive school experiences, answered questions, and offered words of encouragement.

The visit was also a valuable experience for our Year 6 students. It allowed them to develop their leadership skills, practice empathy, and gain a sense of responsibility. They returned to school with a sense of pride having made a positive impact.

Both the kindergarten children and our Year 6 leaders left with lovely memories and new friendships. We even saw some of our Holy Cross siblings! We look forward to continuing this tradition and finding more ways to connect with and support our local community.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders and School Captains for their dedication and kindness.

Our inquiry unit this term is focused on wellbeing across our school. Stay tuned for more information on our learning in this space.

Celebrating Mother's Day

Last Friday, we hosted a special Mother's Day Afternoon Tea, celebrating the wonderful women in our childrens' lives. It was attended by mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and other special women who play an essential role in nurturing and supporting our children.

Our school captains helped welcome our special visitors, then our talented school choir performed two specially chosen songs. Mrs Peake hit the mark with a Backstreet Boys song that took many in the room back to their teenage years! The choir's beautiful voices filled the room, creating an atmosphere of celebration and appreciation that touched the hearts of all present.

After the performance, our guests were invited to visit the classrooms, where a variety of activities awaited them. Each classroom buzzed with excitement as children and their special guests participated in hands-on activities designed to create lasting memories. Some indulged in relaxing hand massages, while others showcased their creativity through jewellery making and craft projects. One of the highlights was the interview activity, where children had the opportunity to ask their mums thoughtful questions, fostering meaningful conversations and deeper connections.

The Mother's Day Afternoon Tea was a lovely way to highlight the strong sense of community within our school. It was a day filled with love, creativity, and beautiful moments, reminding us all of the irreplaceable role that these incredible women play in our lives.

Events like this play an important role in the wellbeing of children. They provide an opportunity for children to express their gratitude and love, which strengthens family bonds and enhances emotional support. Engaging in shared activities allows children to build positive memories and develop a sense of belonging and security. These experiences contribute to their emotional and social development, promoting a supportive and nurturing school environment.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend  the Mother’s Day afternoon tea and to everyone who helped prepare, set up and clean up for the event. We hope our mums and special guests enjoyed the afternoon as much as the children did.
