FAITH MATTERS

MRS ALISON WRIGHT - DIRECTOR OF FAITH & MISSION

Ladauto Si’ Week - 19th to 26th May, 2024

This week we celebrate the gift of Pope Francis’ Encyclical, Laudato si’, “Care for our Common Home”. He reminds us of our responsibility for God's great gift and how we can live with our God, our neighbour, our earth, and indeed the universe itself.

The theme this year is ‘Seeds of Hope’ and we are called to consider how we can plant and nurture seeds of hope for our “suffering planet” (LD 2).

Caritas Australia calls us to act by engaging in their ‘Together We: Tree of Life’ campaign. Our Year 9 students on their recent reflection day participated in this campaign by writing their commitment to the environment on a ‘leaf’ to place on their tree. This tree will be displayed in the LRC.

Year 9 Reflection Day - May 15th

The theme for the day was “Stewardship” with a particular focus on how we are called to take care of our environment. Students were involved in various activities throughout the day including making bird feeders, planting seedlings in biodegradable pots, road rubbish collection and learning about food waste.

My thanks to all involved with planning and running the day.

Hearts and Hands - Compassion and Justice

The annual food collection has begun in the lead-up to our Hearts and Hands Mass on Thursday, June 6th at 9:15am. Staff and students are all encouraged to donate non-perishable food items. Homerooms have once again put together a list of ideas of the sorts of things they can donate for their “family”.

Donations will be accepted up until the Mass.

Vinnies Youth

There have been students expressing their interest in forming a Vinnies Youth team at school. It is a great opportunity for students to work in the area of social justice in our local community. We are hoping to work with the local St Vincent de Paul Society in their shop and at The Good Kitchen.

We will keep you updated!

In this anniversary week of Ladauto Si’ we pause and pray:

All powerful God, you are present in the universe and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.

Fill us with your peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,

so precious in your eyes.

Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it,

that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation,

to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day.

Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle, for justice, love and peace.

Jesus, Light of the world, guide us

St Joseph, journey with us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us
