Ian is known to many of the Great Southern community. Ian currently serves as CEO of the Albany Youth Support Association, previously serving in the Western Australian Police Force, completing his tenure as Superintendent of the Great Southern. He received the Australian Police Medal in 2018.
Ian is passionate about community and young people. He is a life member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; Chair of the Great Southern District Emergency Management Committee; Chair, Great Southern District Leadership Group; Chair, Great Southern Operational Area Support Group – Pandemic, and Board Member, WA Police Legacy.
Ian brings significant processional board and governance experience to the School Council. He has a strong strategic vision for GSG and is committed to shaping a positive future for our school. Please join me in welcoming Ian to the new role.
We also welcome Mrs Kylie Smith to the role of Deputy Chair. Kylie has been a long-term member of our community with her children attending and serving on School Council and Finance Committee. Her stewardship has been instrumental in guiding the school over a number of years. Kylie has strong business and community experience and was instrumental in leading the establishment and ongoing management of the Spirit of Grammar Scholarship. Please join me in welcoming Kylie to the new role.
Head of Secondary
It is with mixed emotions I announce the resignation of Mrs Victoria Turnor effective from 31 December 2024. Victoria has served in the role of Head of Secondary over the last two years and has led and successfully guided the development of a new Secondary model at GSG. She has established strong pastoral relationships with students and her academic prowess has developed a positive culture of achievement in Years Seven to Twelve.
Victoria commenced at Great Southern Grammar as a Mathematics Teacher in 2014. In 2018 she was appointed Head of Teaching Staff Operations, in 2022 she was appointed Head of Senior School and after an organisational restructure in 2023 Head of Secondary. She is a keen musician playing clarinet and bass clarinet with Albany City Wind Ensemble.
Victoria and her husband will now move into the next part of their lives, with business opportunities ahead of them. We wish Victoria, husband Allen, and the rest of the family all the best for the future.
Mr Neil Ferreira will take the reins as Acting Head of Secondary for the remainder of the year as Victoria takes long service leave. Neil is an experienced teacher and pastoral leader, and I have no doubt he will excel in this role. Neil has well-established relationships with students, families, and staff, which will be critical in maintaining continuity of care and leadership in the Secondary School.
Head of Baudin House
With Mr Neil Ferreira taking on the role of Acting Head of Secondary, I am pleased to announce that Mrs Nyree Mackenzie has taken up the invitation to be the Acting Head of Baudin House. Nyree is currently Head of Endeavour House and has a great passion for pastoral care. Her knowledge of school systems and expertise in wellbeing and care for young people will bring about great outcomes for students in Baudin House. Nyree will also continue in her role as Head of Endeavour House.
