Art

Students are really enjoying exploring the jungle artworks of Henri Rousseau, a self-taught French artist. Rousseau's artwork features jungle scenes with tigers and exotic plants. This term we spend the first few weeks finishing our various artworks inspired by the jungles of Henri Rousseau’s imagination.

The prep and 1/2 classes have completed their “Big Cats" Paintings and their jungle collages. The 3/4 classes have done an incredible job at creating their jungle dioramas. They have added so much detail, showing depth and very imaginative plant and animal forms. Grade 5/6 students have finished painting on their canvases using acrylic paints and these look amazing. So many bright and vibrant jungle scenes.

CLAY

All students are well into finalising their clay models. We continue to be influenced by Henri Rousseau with a focus on jungle animals. Preps are making pinch pot clay turtles and leaf mobiles. The 1/2 classes are making crocodiles using the coil method. 3/4 students are making double pinch pot elephants and 5/6 classes are making a free choice jungle animal.

All 3/4 students were so excited to go to TarraWarra Museum of Art to view the current exhibition of art and furniture design. Students engaged in art discussions and created artworks based on the works viewed. We also stopped at the Chocolaterie for a treat.

Here are some student responses for the Art/STEM excursion:

Last Friday all 3/4 students went to the Tarrawarra Museum of Art in Healesville.

We left school at 9.30 by bus. It took over an hour to get there. When we got there, I first noticed a massive sculpture of a curved line. I thought, “that is the biggest worm I have ever seen!!"

I also noticed the Valhalla which looks like a very old and broken building and wanted to know more about it. Violette, 3/4B

I was so excited to finally go inside the Valhalla artwork. I saw a really clean tiled room and three smallish elevators. The arrows on the elevator were strange. Someone pressed them and an eerie noise came out… It sounded as if someone was coming down the elevator. It made me nervous and excited as well. But nothing happened!  Frank 3/4B

We then went on a tour of the gallery and saw a room full of abstract art. What I noticed was a massive painting of a 3D room. I really felt the urge to touch it but we all know that you can’t touch the art in a gallery!! I really loved the Dr No- James Bond Artwork, as it had a great story behind it. I also loved all the old furniture on display as it was seventy years old but still looked so modern.  Louie 3/4B

We had lunch in the gardens then the bus took us to the Chocolatiere which was so exciting and fun. As soon as you walked in, there was a smell of chocolate and so many choices. It was really hard to decide what to buy for my family as I had only $10. I got some chocolate freckles and shared them once I got home. They were so yummy! We all got back on the bus with our treat in hand. It was one of the best days. Thank you to all the teachers who helped us. Margo, 3/4B

To support student learning, parents are invited to help in the art room. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.

Erica (our classroom music teacher) and I are planning an Art and Music Expo to showcase students' class work this semester. The date for the Expo is Thursday 27 June. If you are able to help with mounting and labelling student artworks, please let me know via email. There will be more information coming via your class carer.
