P.E.
It has been delightful to witness the foundation children's excitement and enthusiasm as they attend P.E. lessons this term. They are growing more confident as they settle into school routines and build their self-assurance.
The children, aged up to 3/4, engage in a game I've dubbed "Survival" or "Game of Life." This game is fluid in terms of rules, revolving around herbivores, carnivores, witches, doctors, diseases, and sometimes even faeries or magic. Essentially, it's a tag game that requires considerable negotiation and cooperation. What's fascinating is that the children often take charge of making the rules themselves, requiring little intervention from me.
The Foundation and 1/2s also begin the swim program at the Northcote Aquatic Centre its enjoyable to watch the younger children travelling by bus together, excited as they head off to the pool.
Physical Education/Sport, mirrors many skills needed in our daily lives, and I often stress to the children that sports demand effort and teamwork to achieve goals.
The 3-6 age group has begun trials for Athletics, culminating in a one-day event scheduled for August 12th at Coburg Athletics track. This sport tends to highlight individual talents, particularly in speed or jumping abilities, compared to team sports that emphasize teamwork and cooperation. Furthermore, the 5/6s will be participating in their Winter Sports Gala Day in the coming week.
This time of year, is bustling with sporting activities at the school, and my goal is to engage and support as many children as possible in joining teams, clubs, or pursuing individual sports. Sports play a vital role in children's mental and physical well-being as they mature into adulthood.
