Principal  Message

Hello everyone

It has been a busy couple of weeks, and I would like to start by acknowledging the amazing work that the students put into celebrating Reconciliation Week last week. The activities they completed in class were an authentic expression of their desire to respect and care for the indigenous culture and the environment around us. Warrandyte is a beautiful town and I do believe our children understand how special the place is. It becomes our norm as we drive alongside the river and wake up to the sound of the kookaburras but it really is not most people's daily experience and the time spent reflecting on the land around us and its history last week was an important way for our students to reflect on where they live and learn.

On the 21st June the FOWPS committee will be running a Movie Night from 6pm-8pm. Tickets are on sale via Compass and you can pre order pizza and choc tops for the night. This year we are raising funds to purchase more ICT for our classrooms, including a class set of tablets for our Preps and junior school. The evening is a great way to come together as we near the end of the term. You can also register to help on the evening by scanning the QR code in the flyer above.

Outdoor Mural Competition

Are you and your family creative? We need your talent as we upgrade our old pool area and install new play equipment, bushtucker garden and outdoor mural. We are looking for a design that represents WPS and the theme is peace and reconciliation. The indigenous garden and outdoor yarning circle space for classes will be a place our students can come and talk, reflect and collaborate together. In 2025 our Preps will enjoy the Bushtucker Gardening program designed to help them form peer relationships working together, discover science and enjoy cooking.

If you are interested you can pick up an A3 copy of the dimensions to draw your design from the office. Students will also be sent home with a copy of this over the coming weeks if they are interested in having a go. The Junior School Council and School Council will collaborate together to judge and decide on the winner.

Construction on the garden and play equipment is likely to begin in July/August. The play equipment has been ordered and we have a landscape designer drawing up some plans for the space. Keep an eye out later in the Winter for any calls to help when it comes time to plant the garden out.

Next week will be a busy one for the staff as we conduct our School Review. On Wednesday and Thursday morning the School Review panel will be conducting learning walks throughout the classrooms to see the work WPS is doing and explore ways that the school improvement agenda can move forward as they write the new goals for the Strategic Plan.  The teachers will let the students know what is happening, so they understand why people are walking through the  rooms and panel members approach students to ask questions about their learning.

Have a great long weekend.
