Literacy
Phonics
In Phonics this term students will:
- build on their ability to blend letters together by reading short phonetic words
- continue developing their fluency in their reading
- progress their handwriting skills starting and ending their letters in the correct direction, writing their letters the correct size and in the correct direction
- increase their capacity to recall and write multiple words in dictated sentences
- continue learning to read and write their High Frequency Words.
Reading
In Reading this term students will:
- learn about fiction texts and their features
- compare fiction and non-fiction texts and their features
- learn about animal tales as an example of fiction texts
- identify narratives as having characters and a beginning, middle and end
- learn to describe characters’ actions and traits
- understand how narratives have problems and solutions
- continue reading Just Wright texts, building on their blending and fluency skills
Writing
In Writing this term students will:
- continue writing recounts of personal and special experiences, developing their spelling, grammar and punctuation skills
- building on their ability to include detail in their writing
- identify the characters and settings of various fiction texts
- retell stories from picture story books
- learn to identify common nouns, such as people, animals places and things
- understand and identify verbs as action words.
Numeracy
In Numeracy this term students will:
- understand how to share small quantities of items into equal groups
- learn to measure the mass and capacity of a variety of objects and containers
- revise their knowledge of addition and subtraction
- learn how to multiply small groups of numbers together to make a sum
- use their knowledge of the language of location and directions to direct small robots to specific locations
- revise their counting skills and knowledge of the place value columns in 2-digit numbers.
Social and Emotional Learning (S.E.L.)
In S.E.L. this term students will:
- learn about how we are all different from one another
- identify the things that make us different from each other
- learn about the meaning of identity
- identify the aspects of themselves that make up their identity
- learn how our identity doesn’t need to dictate what we choose to do with our lives.
Inquiry
In Inquiry this term students will:
- make origami toys
- design and build their own toys
- learn about billy carts
- build their knowledge of the different technologies used in modern toys
- complete a Pre Melbourne Zoo excursion activity
- visit the Melbourne Zoo for our end of year excursion
- participate in our end of year swimming lessons at Splash
- play with their own toys they designed and created
- play a series of Mr. Turner’s video games.
Important Reminders
- Swimming lessons at Splash in week 7
- Melbourne Zoo excursion is in week 9
- Bring a hat every day for the rest of the year
- Bring a water bottle and healthy packed lunch every day
- Practice reading your Just Right books and High Frequency Words every night.
