Year 7 and 8 Students Participate in the Shooters Shoot Basketball Program

This term, a group of Year 7 and 8 students took part in the Shooters Shoot Basketball Program, a unique initiative designed to support and empower African-identifying students through sport, reflection, and mentorship.

The program blends structured basketball sessions with guided journaling and community mentorship, creating a holistic experience that nurtures teamwork, resilience, confidence, and self-expression. Students participated in engaging on-court sessions that built physical skills and cooperation, while journaling activities encouraged reflection, emotional literacy, and pride in personal and cultural identity.

Through mentorship and culturally relevant discussions led by facilitators with lived experience, students explored themes of belonging, leadership, and representation. The program provided safe spaces for students to feel seen and valued, strengthened connections to community, and promoted a strong sense of identity and wellbeing.

We are proud to partner with the Shooters Shoot team and appreciate their ongoing commitment to fostering inclusion, empowerment, and engagement among young people in our school community.
