   H&PE - TERM 4 HIGHLIGHTS

It has been busy this term in H&PE!

We had a very successful H&PE week early in the term with lots of activities and participation. The annual teacher v year 12 competitions were well attended as always, and the teachers came away victorious again this year in both Netball and Basketball. We also had daily rowing challenges and quizzes, and students got active trying to win the steps challenge. Congratulations to all who participated and got active during this week.

Year 11 PE students were lucky enough to have a representative from “Wheeltalk” visit this term. This incursion was linked to inclusion and access to physical activities. Peter talked about his injury and trying to access physical activity as a ‘disabled’ person. He taught the students how to play wheelchair basketball, and everyone got to participate in the wheelchairs. He also strongly encouraged them to be quite rough and crash into others with the chairs!

“On the day of the workshop we learnt about how people overcome their disability and how they live life like nothing was wrong. Our class got a chance to experience and play wheelchair basketball. It was certainly hard, but what we got from this is that you shouldn't let a disability stop you from being active. There will always be some sports tailored to you, like wheelchair basketball”.

In week 6 we were lucky enough to have the team from METs work with a group of selected PE students as part of the Student Excellence Program. This incursion provided students with a sport science experience. They were able to participate in a range of fitness tests with some fancy equipment that they wouldn’t normally have access to. The students had a great time trying to better their own results and competing against each other. My favourite moment was being able to beat Jude Tortosa in at least one test!

Year 10 All About Health were lucky enough to visit METEC a traffic education venue in week 6:

“The METEC driving excursion was probably one of the best ways to end the All About Health semester. It was a day full of fun and new experiences. It started off with a short lesson on road rules and safety and then we got straight into driving. We practiced many different techniques including sharp turns, reverse driving, steering around roundabouts, driving around cones and obeying various road signs. Since it was my first time behind the wheel, I was extremely nervous, and it felt as if my legs were cramping. However, with the help of my amazing instructor, Vicky, and my friends who were sitting in the backseat, I eased through the course and had fun while doing it. Overall, this excursion was worth the money and wait and was an unforgettable experience that helped me build confidence and inspired me to start my driving journey”.
