Year 8 Poetry Slam Final

OutLoud 2025
Year 8 Poetry Slam Final

On Monday 1st September, three talented teams from Northcote High School represented
our school at the OutLoud Year 8 Poetry Slam heats, held at The Wheeler Centre. Competing against over 20 schools from across the state, our students brought creativity, humour, and heart to the stage.
Our three finalists were Harriet Williams (8I), Miranda Lucas (8F), and the group of Banyan, Xavier, Ben, and Oliver (8G). After a morning of impressive performances, both Harriet and the 8G group were selected to progress to the afternoon finals—a fantastic achievement!
The highlight of the day came when Banyan, Xavier, Ben, and Oliver were presented with
a special, never-before-seen honour: The Andy Griffiths Prize, created on the spot by the author himself for the poem he personally loved the most. Their high-energy performance—complete with matching suits, sunglasses, and a touch of beatboxing—had the audience smiling from ear to ear.

The event, hosted by poet Emilie Zooey-Baker, and judged by N’fa Jones, Andy Griffiths, and Charlee Brooks, celebrated the passion and power of young voices. With so much talent and enthusiasm on display, the judges had their work cut out for them.
It was a day filled with laughter, emotion, and exceptional poetry—proof that the next generation of writers is already making its mark. Congratulations to all our performers for representing Northcote High with such spirit and style!
