A Message from the Principal

Dear Families and Friends

The past few weeks have been full and vibrant as the life of Salvado Catholic College settles back into its familiar rhythm. It has been wonderful to see students reconnect with one another, engage in their learning and take part in the many opportunities that contribute to the life of the College.

Over recent weeks we have seen this in a number of ways, from the opening of new learning spaces, to the introduction of new programs, to the opportunities students have had to participate, lead and contribute to our community.

One of the most visible examples of this growth has been the completion of new learning spaces across the campus.

Block 3 includes nine new general-purpose classrooms that support the continued growth of our secondary program. Importantly, this building also houses our new Wellbeing Centre, which serves as a central hub for our students' pastoral care. The centre offers a welcoming space where students can seek guidance and support as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of school life.

Alongside this development, Block 4 introduces specialised facilities designed to support practical and creative learning. The building includes two state-of-the-art kitchens for Food Technology providing students with contemporary spaces to develop their culinary skills and hospitality knowledge. These facilities also support students undertaking the Certificate II in Hospitality, allowing them to develop industry-relevant skills in a professional learning environment. The building also includes Visual Art studios that provide inspiring spaces for students to explore and express their creative talents.

Students undertaking the Certificate II in Hospitality are now able to further develop their skills in these purpose-built learning spaces. The course, which commenced last year, is delivered over two years and allows students to build practical skills while exploring pathways into hospitality, tourism and related industries.

Delivered in partnership with Skills Strategies International, the program enables students to graduate not only with their WACE, but also with a nationally accredited Certificate II in Hospitality. This provides a valuable qualification that can support further study, apprenticeships or employment opportunities.

Beyond the classroom, students have also enjoyed opportunities to participate in the wider life of the College. Our Primary Swimming Carnival was a wonderful celebration of participation, enthusiasm and House spirit. Students approached the day with great energy, encouraging one another and giving their best throughout the events. Days such as this allow students to challenge themselves, support their peers and experience the strong sense of belonging that characterises our community. Congratulations to all students who participatedand to Benedict house for winning the Champion House Award.

Supporting the smooth running of the carnival were our Year 10 Sports and Recreation students, who assisted with organising and managing events across the day. Their involvement provided a valuable opportunity to put the skills they are developing in class into practice while supporting our younger students. It was also lovely to see many families attending the carnival to cheer from the sidelines and celebrate their children’s efforts.

Another significant moment this term was our first full Secondary Assembly, bringing together students from Years 7 to 12. The assembly was led by our inaugural Student Leadership Team.  College Captains, Gabriel Chase and Krys Marie-Louise, set the tone for the year in their address to students about the importance of taking pride in their College and in the way they represent it each day.

They reminded students that leadership is not limited to those in formal positions, but is reflected in the choices each student makes — in the classroom, in the playground and in the way they treat others. Their message encouraged all students to model the values that define our community and to recognise the role each of them plays in shaping the culture of the College.

Across the College, these values are demonstrated in many different ways. Students recently enjoyed participating in Crazy Hair Day as part of our support for Project Compassion during Lent. While the creativity displayed certainly brought plenty of smiles across the school, the day also provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of generosity and being mindful of others' needs.

Our community will also have the opportunity to come together in faith in the coming weeks. Families are warmly invited to join us for our upcoming Opening School Mass. Celebrations such as this provide an opportunity to pause and acknowledge the shared journey of the College, as well as the values that continue to guide our work with young people.

God Bless!
