Principal, Ms Alex Montgomery

It has been another busy and exciting few weeks across the school. Our Home Reading program has now begun, and we encourage all families to support their child by setting aside a few minutes each evening to read together. Regular reading at home helps build confidence, fluency and a love of learning.
Congratulations to the students who represented our school at the Zone Swimming Carnival. They demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and determination, and we are very proud of their efforts in representing our school community.
Our Year 6 students also attended the GEA Sports Gala Day at Glendale Technology High School. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in a range of sporting activities, work collaboratively with other schools and enjoy a great day of competition and teamwork.
We were also pleased to welcome the Happy Teeth program to our preschool. This visit helped our youngest learners understand the importance of dental health and good brushing habits in a fun and engaging way.
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support. It is always wonderful to see our students participating in such a wide range of learning and community experiences.
NAPLAN
During Weeks 7 & 8, students in Years 3 & 5 will be participating in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). NAPLAN is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3 & 5 sit each year.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process.
Parent Teacher Interviews – Term 1
We have begun planning for our Term 1 Parent Teacher Interviews, which will take place in Week 9. To support families and staff, interviews will be held on a designated day, with further details and booking information to be shared with families shortly.
Holding parent teacher interviews in Term 1 provides an important opportunity for families and teachers to connect early in the school year. These meetings allow teachers to share how students have settled into their class, discuss early progress in learning, and identify strengths as well as areas where additional support may be beneficial.
Parent teacher interviews also strengthen the partnership between home and school. By working together and sharing insights, we can ensure students are well supported in their learning and wellbeing from the beginning of the year.
We look forward to meeting with families and continuing to work together to support every student’s success
Statement of Accounts – Term 2 Update
Starting in Term 2, statements of account will be sent out to all families in Week 2 or 3. This is a change from our previous practice, where excursion/incursion and camp costs were paid as you go. We want to provide families with a clearer idea of expected costs at the beginning of the term, helping with planning and budgeting. Each statement will include details for all excursions, camps, and any other optional activities (such as sport, PSSA, Gala Days, Star Struck, and leadership) your child may participate in. You will always be advised in advance if any of these activities have associated costs, and participation is entirely optional.
At our school, we remain committed to ensuring every student in NSW has access to a high-quality public education. While instruction in public schools is provided free of charge, we are extremely grateful to those families who choose to make voluntary financial contributions to support our school.
In 2026, we suggest a voluntary contribution of $50 per student. These contributions will be directed exclusively towards supporting important student voice initiatives for our playground. Contributions can be made via School Bytes in Term 2.
Please remember that all contributions are entirely voluntary and that no child will ever be disadvantaged due to financial hardship. If your family needs support, confidential assistance is available through the NSW Department of Education: Voluntary School Contributions Support.
For further information, please contact the school office on 02 4958 1831. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students’ Cultural Immersion and Yarn Up
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students recently participated in a cultural immersion excursion designed to support them in drafting their Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs). This meaningful experience allowed students to connect deeply with their cultural heritage, Country, and community, enhancing their understanding and engagement in their learning journey. The excursion aligns with the NSW Department of Education’s commitment to culturally responsive education, ensuring that students’ PLPs reflect their unique identities, strengths, and aspirations.
Our students are now looking forward to sharing their drafted PLPs with their families and carers at the upcoming Yarn Up on Friday, 20 March. This special event provides an opportunity to celebrate learning and culture, and for families to be actively involved in supporting their children’s educational journeys. We invite all families and carers to join us for this important occasion, as we continue working together to ensure every student feels valued, empowered, and connected to their heritage.
