 3/4 CLASSROOM

The past few weeks in Year 3/4 have been busy and productive. Students have been focusing on planning their ideas and using conjunctions to further develop their writing. Our Grade 3 students began NAPLAN this week, and I am very proud of the focus and effort they have shown. In reading, we have nearly finished reading our class novel Kensuke’s Kingdom, which has led to some great discussions about the story and its characters. In spelling, students have been exploring the long vowel sounds /a/ and /e/ sounds through hands-on activities such as word sorts and dictation games.

In Maths, we have finished our unit on addition and subtraction and have started learning multiplication and division. Students are developing strategies to solve problems and practise their facts while learning about the relationship between multiplication and division. We have recently introduced quick Maths fluency questions at the beginning of each lesson to help students revise and strengthen their skills.

In RE, students completed the “Following Jesus” unit by creating artwork inspired by either the Lost Sheep or the Good Samaritan. They used symbols and scenes to show the story’s message and explained their thinking to the class. This week, we began our Lent and Easter unit by making a Lenten tree and sharing what we already know about Lent. The tree will continue to grow as the unit progresses.

In Inquiry, students have been exploring communities and how they have changed over time. This week, we focused on Indigenous communities and learned about their traditions, culture, and connection to the land. We listened to some Indigenous stories, such as Tiddalik the Frog, and discussed Dreaming stories and how they pass down knowledge, values, and connections to Country.
