Facilities

We have maintained a strong focus on creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all students. Ensuring that students feel secure and comfortable in their living and learning spaces continues to be a priority, as we recognise the important role a positive environment plays in wellbeing, engagement, and success at school.

The year has begun very positively, with a significant amount of work completed prior to the students’ arrival. Careful planning and preparation over the holiday period allowed essential maintenance, upgrades, and improvements to be undertaken without disruption to daily routines. This proactive approach ensured that facilities were ready for the start of the school year and that students were able to settle into their surroundings smoothly and confidently.

To further strengthen the way we respond to maintenance and operational needs, a new portal system has been introduced. This system enables more accurate reporting and allows for timely responses to requests and issues. By improving communication and tracking, we are better positioned to address concerns efficiently, for staff and students.

A major milestone this year was the opening of the 139 Richmond Terrace Campus “Buarth Gurru.” This development reflects our commitment to providing high-quality spaces that meet the needs of our students and community.

We have also begun working with new nurseries that specialise in Indigenous plants. Through these relationships, we will see more Indigenous plants being introduced into our grounds, enhancing the natural environment while celebrating Indigenous culture and connection to land.

As a not-for-profit organisation, strong partnerships are essential. We have established new relationships and strengthened existing ones with providers such as Kane Constructions, A.G. Coombs and CLM Security who are providing services to MITS at discounted rates as a not-for-profit organisation. In addition, we have been fortunate to receive generous support from Kennards, with our local branch providing plant and equipment free of charge. These partnerships enable us to responsibly manage resources while maintaining high standards across our facilities.

Finally, we are particularly enjoying the opportunity to engage with students who have an interest in trades. Where appropriate, students are being involved in projects, allowing them to gain practical experience, develop skills, and build confidence. This hands-on involvement fosters engagement, encourages learning beyond the classroom, and strengthens students’ sense of ownership and pride in their environment.

Together, these initiatives reflect our continued commitment to quality, community, connection and student wellbeing. We are looking forward to continuing this great momentum across the rest of the school year.
