STEM Report
Welcome back to Term 3 at RPPS and welcome back to another term in the STEM room. A fresh term means a new round of topics across all year levels. Have a look below to see what your child may be learning about this term.
Prep: This term, Prep students will be exploring the biological world when they work through their new topic titled, 'Its alive!'. Students will learn to identify living things and investigate simple stages of a life cycle. They will identify requirements for survival and learn how to apply this knowledge when looking after pets and plants.
Grade1/2: Term 3 will see Grade 1/2 students exploring the Physical Science topic titled, 'Magic Movement'. Students will identify how different shaped objects move and investigate how properties such as size may affect an object's movement. They will look at the effects of different forces, such as push and pull and use their understanding in a catapult design challenge.
Grade 3/4: This term, Grade 3/4 students will be investigating the different lifecycles of living things and learning how they depend on each other in complex relationships. They will explore life in an ecosystem and identify the different roles of organisms which are necessary for survival.
Grade 5: Grade 5 students will be tackling the electrifying topic titled, 'Energy and Circuits'. They will identify different components in an electronic circuit and perform experiments on different materials to compare conductors and insulators. Students will have the opportunity to create their own simple circuits and apply their understanding in a design challenge.
Grade 6: This term, Grade 6 students will be exploring the Chemical Science topic titled, 'Changes all around us'. They will look for evidence to identify the difference between physical and chemical changes in everyday examples and perform experiments to observe how variables may affect a chemical change, such as combustion.
This term, Specialist teachers are really focusing on the way students are ready for learning at the beginning of each lesson. We have been practicing our calm classroom entry/exits and early reports from all teachers has been very positive. Chatting with your child about behaviour expectations and routines of the classroom can help reinforce the message being delivered at school and help keep learning our priority. We thank parents in advance for their support in this area and can't wait to see the effects on our students' growth.
Regards
Specialist Team
