Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future.

We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.

The Acknowledgement of Country below was made by Zohara in Year 4.

Kalinda Crews Olympics

We are really excited this Friday to be holding our Kalinda Crews Olympics. This is a great opportunity for students to further build their team spirit within their multi-age crews, strengthen their positive relationships with peers and staff members, and have a lot of fun.

The Kalinda Crews Olympics will commence with an Opening Ceremony at 2:00pm on Thursday in the stadium (parents are welcome to attend) and will be a fun-filled day of events on Friday.

I want to give a special shout-out to Mrs Drummond, who came up with the idea of the Kalidna Crews Olympics and has organised everything.

3-6 House Athletics Carnival

In keeping with the Olympics theme, the 3-6 House Athletics Carnival was an amazing success. Thank you to Ms Davies and Mrs Oakley for their leadership with the event, and to all the parents who volunteered to make it a great success (Ted Dugdaleeven came along to help with the set up. Thank you Ted).

The day was full of great performances, personal bests and a few all time Kalinda records were broken. However, the thing that stood out the most was the relationships between the students. The encouragement, support and celebration of each other was really inspiring to see and told us a lot about the culture of our school. Whether cheering a classmate for a fantastic performance or encouraging someone who was even struggling to finish the race, the support shown to one another made it a very special day.

Well done to every single student in giving it your best effort, both in the events and as a teammate and friend!

Supervising children before and after school

I would just like to remind parents that when supervising your children before or after school on school grounds that you are actively supervising them and managing their behaviours. The behavioural expectations for students on school grounds before or after school are the same as any school day. That is, they must be kind and respectful towards one another, and there is absolutely no tackling or wrestling.

I would also like to remind parents that we ask you not to engage with children other than your own about their behaviours or things that have happened during the day. If you have concerns about how another child is behaving or they have treated your child in an unkind or unsafe manner then we would ask that you speak to your child's teacher, or Mrs Hopkins or myself.

Welcome to our new Groundskeeper/Maintenance Person

A warm welcome to Nik Passman, our new Groundskeeper and Maintenance Person. Nik is very experienced in landscaping and maintenance. Nik began a little over a week ago and is already making fantastic progress in maintaining and improving our school facilities, inside and out.

Child Safety at Kalinda

At Kalinda Primary School we are committed to creating and maintaining a child safe and child-friendly organisation, where children and young people are safe and feel safe.

The safety of all children at the school is our most important responsibility and we are committed to always following our school's Child Safe policies with diligence and consistency.

Our Child Safe policies are all published on our school website and are available for all members of our school community to view. These can be accessed on the Policy page of our website:

Parliament Prize Winner

We have some very exciting news that one of our very own Year 6 students, Sophie M, has placed 3rd in the Parliament Prize competition. The Parliament Prize is an annual competition delivered by the Victorian parliament that gives students an opportunity to talk about issues that are important to them. Students are asked to consider what they would say to parliament if they were an MP and record their own 90-second Member's Statement video.

Sophie’s video about the importance of education support dogs in schools won her third prize for the Grade 5 and 6 category out of 1,126 applications across the state. She was awarded her prize money at Parliament House in Melbourne on Monday by a member of parliament.

Roxie, Melon, and the whole school community are very proud of this achievement.

Fantastic effort Sophie!

We are kind. We are resilient. We are respectful.
