Principal Report

This week we commenced planning for one of our school’s major fundraising and community events for 2024; the ‘Fun Fiesta’. This event occurs every two years at ARPS, and includes a Talent Quest, choir performances, raffles, market stalls, rides, art displays, and so much more!

Families and community members can obtain a stall at the Fun Fiesta by contacting the office- the stalls are often a combination of locally produced items, community group displays (eg. Scouts), and experienced market sellers.

If you are eager to be part of the planning group, we would love to have more ideas and contributions- please contact the office to offer your input and support.

This week, we will be asking students to take part in our Fun Fiesta poster competition. A student poster will be chosen from submitted designs, to become the artwork on all promotional materials for the Fun Fiesta, including the board at the front of the school.

The winner of the poster competition also receives a free ‘unlimited’ ride pass for the Fun Fiesta. Details will be shared with students at assembly and in classrooms. We encourage students in all year levels at the school to take part in the Fun Fiesta poster competition.

Student Learning in Maths

This week, Mrs Natalie Smith (Maths Curriculum Team co-leader), regional Education Improvement Leaders (Gaye Wilde and Emma Thompson) and myself enjoyed the opportunity to visit all of our classes and talk to students from Foundation to Year 6, about their learning in Mathematics. We were excited to hear from the students about the ongoing feedback from teachers to students about their learning in Maths, particularly personal goal setting, feedback from assessments and students’ understandings about the purpose of the maths they were learning. The students we talked to enjoyed showing evidence of their progress in Mathematics, including their bookwork, assessment results, Ninja Maths progress, and more. It was also wonderful to see how many students are achieving well in Mathletics tasks and assessments.

I encourage parents to talk to children about the Mathematics that is happening in each child’s classroom and student personal learning goals, as well as children’s progress on their online Mathletics program tasks.

SHORT STORY COMPETITION

Ticket Information for VSSS – tickets are NOW on Sale

Our students had a wonderful day at the Melbourne Town Hall yesterday, for a full day rehearsal of their upcoming performance at John Cain Arena.

Many thanks to Mr Daniel Radcliffe (Performing and Visual Arts specialist teacher) and Michaela Megroz (Education Support) for putting in the early hours, planning and rehearsals prior to the day. A special thanks also to Cas Foley (Librarian) for her coordination of documentation, costumes, student lists and communication to families leading up to this rehearsal and the event itself. We have just 3 rehearsals to go until the ‘beg day’ in September.

We encourage you to let your family, friends and the wider school community know so they can purchase tickets and enjoy the students' hard work.

Please see State Schools Spectacular tab for ticketing information.
