Learning Across the

Junior School

From the Assistant Principal: Head of Junior School

Mid-Year Reception

We are delighted to welcome 13 new Mid-Year Reception girls to the Loreto Junior School community this term. These young learners have seamlessly adjusted to school life and are already actively participating in various community events and specialist lessons. Their enthusiasm and adaptability are truly commendable, and we look forward to seeing them thrive in our nurturing environment.

Laser Literacy Program

This term, our girls have been actively engaged in the new Playberry Literacy program. Every morning, a dedicated literacy block takes place, with the highlight being the Phonology routine. In this routine, teachers follow a structured approach to introduce letters, sounds, and concepts to our students using an explicitly directed instructional method. The Daily Review, an integral part of this routine, ensures that new learning is firmly embedded into the girl's long-term memory. The level of engagement and learning has been remarkable in such a short period of time.

Musical Showcase

We are thrilled to announce that later this term, our preschool to Year 4 students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a Musical Showcase. This event will take place on Thursday, 5 September, at the Loreto Performing Arts Centre, with two performances scheduled at 1.45 pm and 6.30 pm. This arrangement offers families the flexibility to attend at a convenient time. The showcase promises to be a delightful celebration of our students' hard work and creativity. More information, including ticketing and specific performance details, will be communicated closer to the date.

Reception

Term 3 has begun with welcoming the new Reception Gold girls and their families. They have settled in well and it is lovely to see them develop confidence in the morning routine and embracing new learning experiences. Our focus has been on our classroom expectations and our similarities and differences. The girls have enjoyed exploring these concepts through role play, story time, art and sharing. This week we attended the Landing Day Mass and Governor’s Assembly. We were so impressed with their focus at these whole school events. We recognise that the early days of Reception can be exhausting. As the term progresses and the girls develop more stamina, we will introduce more formal learning.

In Reception Blue, we are excited to welcome Zoe and her family to the Loreto College community. Our girls have embraced their new friend, helping her with classroom routines and expectations. This term in our Unit of Inquiry, we have begun exploring the excitement of story-telling and story-writing. After the special Landing Day Mass, we listened to the amazing story of Gonzaga Barry, shared our favourite part and created portraits to remind us of how brave she was.
