Prep News

Term 3, Week 4

What we've been up to in Prep!

Here are the photos from Ecolinc that were missing from last fortnights newsletter:

To follow up our learning about amphibians and the story of Tiddalick the Frog, we were very lucky to have Annie from the Bendigo Art Gallery come in to read us the story and teach us how to make frogs out of air-dry clay. Thank you, Annie!

We have been learning about teen numbers in Maths. We know that if there is a '1' at the start of a number, it is a teen number but that the '1' actually means 10. We have been practising how to make the numbers 11-15 using tens frames, counters and ourselves!

At the end of week 2 we had so much fun celebrating 100 days of Prep! We went on a small parade, found 100 numbers in a scavenger hunt, made hats and did lots of counting to 100!

Upcoming Dates

Friday 16th August - Ecolinc Excursion (permission required via Compass)

Friday 23rd August- Book Week Dress Up Day

Friday 13th September - Ballarat Wildlife Park Excursion (permission and payment required via Compass)

This year we have enough staff members to come on both excursions with us. Thank you to those parents who have offered to come to either excursion with us.

Some important information regarding both upcoming excursions:

  • There will be information sent out on a later day about the time students will need to be at school- this will be earlier than the usual school day.
  • We ask that all Prep students are dropped off as per normal to the front of their classroom. This is the time and place for you to say your goodbyes. Please do not wait to wave the bus off as this can be really upsetting for children for a number of reasons.
  • All students need to bring the following (labelled) in their school backpack:
    • lunchboxes with snack and lunch
    • water bottle
  • We will send an updated time of arrival when we are on our way home.
  • There are to be no toys or spending money under any circumstances.

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In the upcoming fortnight, we will learn about the /ck/ sound. We have been learning all about double letter sounds and know that they are always written after a short vowel and at the end of a word. Our story of the week in week 5 will be Wendy by Gus Gordon and in week 6 it will be No Way Yirrikipayi! By Milikapiti School and Alison Lester. We will be learning the Heart Words 'so' and 'all' and revising 'she'.

In Mathematics, Prep children will continue learning about number facts to 20. We will also be learning about sharing and odd and even numbers.

In Topic next week we will be becoming scientists! We will do some experiments and get our predicting and evaluating brains working. In week 6, we will be learning about reptiles.

In Respectful Relationships, we will be learning about Help Seeking by working on communicating and recognising who we can go to for help at school.
